I well and truly cannot unlock achievements.
I'm playing on Tactician, so you can understand my frustration when I beat the Arena and find that I cannot unlock achievements for it.

I did mess with achievements in the past, but I did a fresh install and new game afterwards. I'm guessing maybe there are lingering files or some other crap stopping me from popping achievements? And, no, I did not touch the gift stuff on the new game.

I know achievements aren't the most important of things, but I like to use them as a task list to experience the most out of a game. Kinda bumming me out that I can't even get the one at the beginning of the game, which I guess I just realized exists. Anyone have suggestions?

You must have mods or gift bags enabled without the script extender

Assuming you're on Windows: Verify the integrity of your game files via steam Library and right clicking the game and going into properties. Should reinforce a clean install of the game. Then install the script extender.

This will enable achievements with or without mods/gift bags. Also it'll massively improve loading times. Although it sounds like you may have subscribed to something in the Steam mod workshop and not have realized it. Either way, the script extender will fix it.

I'll def give this a try, thank you. I hope it works, would be frustrating to lose 16 hours of progress.

Even with the script extender it seems like I can't pop even the first achievement where you escape the boat. I'm even just getting in without saving my companions and it won't pop. The script extender shows up on the main menu so I know it's enabled. So confused.

That shouldn't be happening. There is a technical way of messing up Thunders of the Deep for some odd reason (You're still on the boat when the Kraken destroys it), but there is still another achievement for just getting onto the Island.

Ok super long shot, are you choosing the Definitive Edition when you start up the game? Because the script extender won't work in classic. It's safe to assume you're playing the definitive version, i'm just checking the bases.

Yeah, I was using Definitive Edition. Even with the plugin, there's no achievements.

I'm going to do a fresh install, wipe my save data (hurts) and install the plugin again. We'll see if it works. If it doesn't, then I don't know.

Okay, so I'm triggered.

Basically, what I did was say 'balls to it' and went to play Postal 2. Game told me I didn't have the DLC when I clearly did. so I wondered if my Steam might be janking up. I turned it off and back on, oldest trick in the book, and I had the DLC again.

So I wondered, maybe now that I've untangled whatever was holding steam up, I could get achievements.

And I could. Whole time I had been deleting files (such as my save data), and reapplying script extenders and stuff, all I had to do was turn steam off and back on again. Played the intro, got the achievements.

Yeah, kinda bummed out that I lost about 18 hours, but whatever. May as well mod the game out. Thanks to all of you whom lent a helping hand, appreciate it.

Turning Steam off and on again did what I thought verifying the integrity of your game files was supposed to do haha
