They'll all good.

They’re not really different. In terms of party build, they can all be made into whatever class you choose so you’re really only choosing their racial talents and special abilities. Fane is good for your first play through, but I found him annoying and after my first round with him, I really don’t feel the need to take him again. Still worth it the first time.

Lohse is another great choice as her story is also very interesting and has a lot of impact on side quests given her story. However, she also is a character who I personally feel isn’t one that holds up after the first time around as her story doesn’t really change. Still a good choice though.

The Red Prince is a character you’ll either like or hate. I personally feel he is the best of them all. His story updates frequently enough to feel relevant but isn’t significantly tied to the main quest so it actually feels like a personal story tangent. Helps keep you interested by allowing you a break from the main plot. His personality really fits his character as you’ll generally feel like you are traveling with a prince. He’ll act like he is above you, because he kinda is given his status. I love his romancing “story” too as it contains what is probably the best conversation in the game (you won’t see it until after the final fight). He is probably the most well done character of all the origin ones.

Sebille and Ifan have a lot of shared NPC contact that often clashes. While you can still do their side stories together, it’s probably better to pick between the two. I’m not a huge fan of Ifan, he just bores me for whatever reason, some people do like him. Sebille was also a decent character, but I feel her story plays out better if you choose to be her instead of her being just a companion.

Beast isn’t bad really, his story only really links to a small portion of act 2 with almost all of it taking place in act 4. So you don’t learn much about him until the last act and it makes him feel detached. Not a bad character, just not the most exciting one either. I kinda like him, though that wasn’t until my 3rd playthrough.

So, there’s my thoughts on them anyways. Just remember that there is literally no reason to leave them as their preferred class, as their stats and abilities change when you choose their class upon recruiting them. So don’t pick who you want based on their class, pick your team and build their classes how you see fit from there.

Story-wise, Fane is the best one since he's relevant until the end of your playthrough.
The prince makes an excellent close range pyromancer with a shield mixed with The Pawn and Elemental affinity. Pull a fire breath, move onto the breath for free and start belting out a whole rotation of spells. Fire resistance helps with lessening Supernova and the magic armor cost of standing in fire.

He's also my favourite companion.

Personally I like to run a dual mage comp where both mages build similar, so one is Pyro/geo and the other is Geo/pyro each focusing the other school but building both. I then pair them with one physical damage, and that varies depending on what I feel like, rogue or archer or whatever it might be. The last character is a unique character build with memory as a main attribute. They take too initiative and learn everything possible. Literally a point in everything. They set up the mage’s elemental affinity on their first turn so they can deal all their AP in damage without wasting any to set up. Then that character functions as a utility support who uses their AP for all the things you usually don’t want to waste AP on (bless for instance). They also focus on statuses and CC using ambidextrous for grenades and scrolls, and just trying to be annoying. They deal little damage until really late game, but are a valuable asset throughout. (Btw, mixing some points in necro with the living armor talent also helps with supernova. If you can affors 4 points you'll heal for 40% of your damage and 35% of that restores magic armor so attacks after supernova can restore what was lost using it.)

But yes, The Prince is the best. Most definitely.

they are all fun choices. You will have things to do for each of them all the way up to arx. The only one where her story runs short is sebille. There is nothing in arx for her as her story ends in act 3. They are all solid choices. you can make each of them whatever you want, they are not restricted to the games default choice. The only thing that changes is the story line.

I don't know why the beef on ifan chaos. He is extremely relevant in this game. His whole story line is tied behind the war and that goes all the way through the last act even up to the final fight. He explains a lot and give way more insight than others. Him and fane are probably the best story characters in my opinion

I'll admit the Red Prince is perhaps the least connected with the main plot.

I dunno either. There is just somthing about him that disinterests me. I've had a friend play him in a co-op as well as have him as a companion in a game that stopped early act 2. I just Lost interest in him. Can't explain it. I'll probably give him more chances later, I just am on a bit of a break from Divinity due to a 400 something hour binge after getting it.

Lohse

Ifan is probably the best huntsman damage dealer so far for me in my game. he deals alot of damage almost one to 2 shotting enemies. and also sebille is a monster assasin dealing so much damage with her abilities

Prince is great and Lohse and Fane are very cool too. All three have intersting and relevant stories and great dialog. Ifan a bit meh compared to those other three. IMHO. Don't know about Beast and Sebille as I've haven't used them.

As others have said, from a purely gameplay perspective, i.e. combat effectiveness etc, it makes no difference as you can build any of them how you like. Racial bonuses etc are maginal at best, with I suppose the exception of Fane's play dead ability and Sebille's flesh eating. But those are more fun than necessary.

Only Fane and Sebille stand out from a combat effectiveness standpoint because Time Warp is OPOP, as is the elf racial Flesh Sacrifice. Otherwise, pick whoever you want.

Lohse for sure. My number one pick, and a choice I wish I had made my first run through. Her story adds the most to the game out of any other companion, and she helps make one of the hardest end bosses both manditory and significantly easier to deal with. Story wise, she is also the most unique, and finishing her quest is the most rewarding by far. Game mechanic wise, you'll like her human encourage ability and want at least one person in the party using it, but her source skill, like most non Fane companions is nothing to write home about.

My next one is a tossup between Red Prince and Sebile.

Red Prince is nice story wise, as he adds some flavor and backstory to a few parts in the game that feel out of place without knowing his questline. He has some nice payoff storywise late in the game, and he shows a decent amount of character growth throughout the middle and end game. He brings a high and mighty attitude that slowly becomes more humble as you progress, and his quests are things you'd usually do anyway for xp, but he gives you reason for them. Game mechanic wise, he doesn't need a shovel to dig, which is nice early on if you can't find one, and he adds some nice utility if your party has more than one person focusing on magic damage. Or, you could say he brings enough utility to be doable as your only magic damage dealer if you want to go that route. This is because of his inherent source skill being used as both offense and defense for magic, and because the lizard breath ability is a nice one AP skill.

Sebile by far has the most character development and you feel the need to finish up her quests more and more as the game goes on. I would not suggest using her with Ifan or Red Prince, as certain overlapping quests can mess up completing one or another, but this shouldn't be an issue if you have Fane and pick Lohse like I HIGHLY suggest. She has a very villainy vibe at first, but as you learn her backstory, you see her reasoning and begin to empathize with her and understand her motives. Gameplay wise, her source skill is usefull in very few situations, but in those situations, it will save you a lot of trouble. Also, the elf racial power flesh sacrifice is amazing, and makes her work great as anything except a tank (which don't work well anyway outside of lone wolf). Due to flesh sacrifice, I would avoid using a shield on her, as FS will sometimes make her auto unequip it. Personally, I like keeping her a rogue and using glass cannon and chameleon cloak, but she will work with anything. Necro and the talent Elemental Affinity work wonders with flesh sacrifice.

I feel Ifan is kinda boring, and his quest line is too close to the main story, and therefore doesn't really add anything to the run. Just kinda "oh, Ifan needs to go do that thing you were already planning on doing." And his wolf is just cool enough that you'll want to ues it, but just game mechanically bad enough that you'll be angry about the fight every time you use it. Early on, he gets a weapon that is only useful if he goes ranger/huntsman, but his wolf is garbage unless you go summoner. But if you go summoner, you'll want the incarnate over the wolf for a plethora of reasons. Ifan is one I would avoid unless you try multiple runs through the game for the sake of getting every character's achievements.

tl;dr PICK LOHSE. Then decide between Red Prince or Sebile, as Ifan is a boring played out stereotype. I didn't include Beast bc you said you already ruled him out.
