Does this game get any better?
I'm about 21 hours into this game. I'm outside Fort Joy and wandering this island, I've done dungeons, I think I beat the boss (damn hour long fight in a castle ruin) and I'm about to hit act 2.

But I'm bored to tears. The combat is good but way too in depth for my taste, it's more of a strategy game than a turned based RPG and this is coming from a guy who won most of the old Black Isle AD&D games and Pillars of Eternity. I do see how people love this system, but hour long battles are not my cup of tea.

The story is going nowhere, it seems generic, I do like my characters story about the thing trying to control her but the main story (or lack of after 21 hours) is just meh.

The environments are boring and the loot seems OK, but I haven't gotten anything that makes me wanna keep pushing forward because it seemed so awesome.

Anyways, my question is should I even bother continuing? Does the story get more epic? Does the environments get less generic? Does the looted items get more of "holy ♥♥♥♥" factor to them? Or is it purely the combat system that keeps everyone playing and loving this game? Because it's not enough for me.

I've taken a 1 month break from it but I have a 2 week vacation coming and want a nice RPG to play and it eats me alive that I haven't won this game and I remember enough this boring ♥♥♥ story to continue from my save without being loss. But I remember I took a break for a reason.

Because otherwise I am gonna go play Tyranny from Obsidian or Pillars of Eternity 2.

P. S this has nothing to do with difficulty, I don't mind the challenge. The overly detailed strategy combat is just not my cup of tea and no, it's nothing like Obsidian games lol:ransomeangry:

No, it doesn't. The overatching story gets predictable once its pieces fit together, if anything. What makes OS2 good (besides the gameplay) are world building and character development. But if you're not entertained by either, then I guess that's that.

Also, an hour to kill Alexandar? Fights tend to go for a while, but a whole hour is surprising to me.

If you don't enjoy the combat then you probably wont enjoy the rest of the game.

I May be over exaggerating but it was over a half hour and close to a hour.

Fair enough. I appreciate the honesty

Still Excited for Baldur's gate 3 regardless of how I feel about Divine Divinity.

It's probably not for you. The combat system is amazing but if you don't like it, it can't be helped.
The story is just alright, it fulfils its duty and I enjoyed it but if you want something deeper I would play something else.

Edit: I forgot to mention that every companion has its own side story, which is really nice, they are decently rich (at least most of them) and enjoyable.
Also, playing as one of those possible companions as your main character, e.g playing as Fane gives you different perspectives of certain things and unique options though the story.

Didn't like Pillars of Eternity 2 main quest though. But if you like Obsidian games you're going to have a fun time with both Tyranny and PoE 2.

Despite saying that, if you ever want to try DOS2 again remember that it has a workshop with tons of mod, you might find something interesting there to make the game more enjoyable for you.

On another topic, you shouldn't take that long to beat Alexander, I don't know which difficulty are you playing at but with a decent build he goes down in like 10 minutes, maybe 15 I don't know, and this is tactician, the only difficulty I've played.

If you have 4 members in your team try to create synergy between the builds of your characters, if you have 1 or 2 characters in your team you should go with Lone Wolf perk which makes you crazy strong.

The story does get betters, the end is pretty amazing, and the characters have wonderful stories, and there's a few good twists.

However, if you're not into the gameplay just quit now, it only gets more difficult.

Also this is probably the single best RPG I've ever seen pr played, so if you're also not into RPG games then I really see no reason to stick around.

As far as story goes, I liked Skyrim better myself. And even Divinity 2 Ego Draconis is better imo. The story here does seem pretty generic. But the Origin characters and such have some personality to them, that's about it if you're into that. I'm at level 14 only, but so far it hasn't seemed like it got much wow factor since the start.

You will get more spells (and consumables) to use after act 1, but it seems to level off shortly and you don't get like new spells really for like ever after that. It's more about character building like mentioned and finding different combos that work. In this area, there's a lot of variation even though the spells don't change much after act 2. You even get spells on your equipment, in addition to more stats like immunity to stun, etc. that you can play with your builds. Though it's a grab bag what you get since crafting of equipment sucks and only loot is worth anything past act 1. You can craft tons of consumables to incorporate into you party though to do all sorts of combos depending on situation. If you're into that sorta thing. You get free infininte respecs which helps character design...on the fly.

There are more "hour fights" ahead as well. But I guess it depends on your build how fast you can take them them, with a right balance of defense. But, yeah, fights are like a board game with strategy and multi-step planning even. More like chess, and less like Skyrim. I think that's what really gets most players into this game.
Certainly prefer DOS2 over Tyranny. Just because it's an RPG it doesn't mean you have to get bored with walls of text and Tyranny's text just ruins the game for me (Don't get me wrong, I like Tyranny and I want to play it, but thinking I just got to the second part and I'm already bombarded with almost an hour of text is not my idea of fun). I prefer the gameplay more than the story reading tbh. Storywise DOS2 is fine, I don't get why people dislike it. Though I'm more of a Diablo 2 kinda guy, my fun is character building.

Oh I love RPGS both Japanese and western. Its more the strategy elements of the combat I don't like. I never been into strategy and this game leans very heavy into player placement, environmental bonuses and synergy. The combat itself seems not to be random because the devolopers putting alot of thought into the "arena"

I'm with you on Diablo type games. Borderlands, Path of Exile, Torchlight of course Diablo itself.. All great games.

Oh yikes. That didn't sell me at all saying Skyrim story was better.
I see why people love it for the combat though. Just not my cup of tea I guess.

It seemed like a hour 🤣 like I said earlier i may be over exaggerating but it was longer than 10 mins.

Maybe my build isn't correct, but it's normal difficulty and I cleared the map of every quest I found.

Ironic given those alleged Diablo-like "great games" have strategy elements, player placement, environmental blah, blah, and synergy metas.....much like DOS2 except that their combat systems are not turn-based..........
