Battle against Voidwoken Deep Dweller in Swamp
Heading to aid Gareth in attacking ship and ran into this battle. Is this a battle I cannot avoid. It is very difficult. My party is level 7 He seesm to be on amission to kill th eparty so it does not seem like just a random battle.

You are correct that it's difficult, but it is not unavoidable. There's another way into the ruined castle.

He's completely avoidable, but he was one of the voidwoken encounters I had to deal with to learn the skill bless. That said, at your level he should be relatively easy, unless you haven't been keeping your gear up to do date.

(If you want to avoid him, go near the shrieker on the west side and climb up the vines to get in.)

Though, I have no idea what your party is like, so giving that as extra details should help us come up with a solution for you.

l I have been to the Ruined Castle already. I am headed down to the beach to the Abandoned Camp to attack the ship. By looking at the map it seems like the only way there is thorugh this battle.

Although through the ruined castle there seems to be a path leading east out of it....SO that could work..Thanks.

Because it is.

Pull the enemies far back or teleport/sneak your way into the top left castle area. The latter gives you access to just immediately gank off the polymorpher who has high ground.

It's a tough fight, but you can just ignore that fight until the very end. There are two other places to learn Bless, so there is no need to rush that fight.

Also, there are vines near the pigs leading up to the castle, so you can always go around the fight in either direction.

I have already been the the fort and learned bless. I was actually headed to meet Gareth in what seems the way to leave this island.

Hmm, does sneaking work?
I'll be honest here, I never thought about the actual route there to get to Gareth on the shore so I may have some false information in my previous post. I know with some telportation shenanigans you can get around him without triggering the battle, but I can't remember where his LoS is to avoid him completely.

You can go up the left side where a single seeker and a shrieker are.
You can climb the vines at the pigs.
You can come from the dragon beach.

There are seriously a bunch of ways to get there.

I absolutely hate hate hate this. Moving around the swamp area is always a bit complicated and if you accidentally make a wrong turn WHAM! you run into an unbeatable (at level 5) ambush where all of the enemies are strategically arranged around you and you are in a big fat clump.waiting to be decimated by area of effect attacks. To add insult to injury they conveniently give you an auto-save, not just before the battle where you could decide to maybe not engage in an impossible combat or find a more strategic way to approach it, but right after you are already committed with no hope. So the only choice is to hope that you remembered to save recently, or else whoops 4 hours of game progress gone just because you accidentally turned right instead of left. Grrrr!

Why on earth would you bump a thread from the game's initial release, six years ago?

While I feel your pain, not saving your game for 4 hours is just asking for a kick in the teeth. This is a genuinely bad habit. You need to learn to save more often. It will help you in this game and countless others in the future. Your time is valuable. Save your game.
