Yeah. Just fought him at 13 on tactician last night.
Covered the bridge in oil, lit it on fire and forced him to run to me.
Kept him stunned for as long as possible with aero spells while avoiding hydro spells as I didn't want to remove burning ever.
Turns out he has battlestomp. It one shot 3 of my 4 team :O
The one person left just tactical retreated to the other side of the bridge, then cloak+dagger back to the dead team. Grog was dead from all the running backwards and forwards.
I chose blood storm, as it will recast disease on him every turn for as long as it lasts.
but really, once you notice how much damage he can do if you let him run loose... just don't. stuns, chicken, terrify grenades all work on him and will keep him from ever getting a turn.
I cast flame skin on my 2h melee guy, and had him just go to town with a flaming hammer. did about 1500 per hit. meanwhile flame mage is casting necrofire on him for 1000-2000 per hit, plus the permanent burning. air mage just kept stunning him while Xbow ifan silenced him with a flaming crossbow.
sure, there's ways to cheese this (i like the chains/living on edge for the quickest kill), but you can certainly fight him straight up as well. just remember he can one shot your entire group up to a range of about 10 meters if you let him.
I had that happen the first time I tried to fight him, but everyone managed to "resist death" and the fight went on, with me much the wiser.
I had a full spellcasting group, but I had to stun him. Otherwise he destroys you.
Was lv...14 on tactician or something. Definitely higher than level 12.
Step 2. Spread the f out. One battlestomp from him will wipe your team.
Step 3. Pull the troll - preferably with fire. (laser ray is good)
Step 4. Spam aero spells.
Step 5. If he gets near you. Tactical retreat for teleport+haste and sprint across the flaming bridge.
Step 6. Watch as he chases after you and takes 2/3rd of his entire hp bar running through flames.
Step 7. Collect fatty loots.
The level you fight him at does not matter.
Fighting him at level 16 = don't get hit. Keep him on fire.
Fighting him at level 9 = don't get hit. Keep him on fire.
If you cant do massive damage to him yourself with fireskill, simply force him to sprint back and forwards through the flames in order to kill your team. He will die from running 2 lengths of the bridge, plus stuns / cripples / sleep? / entangled...
Never freeze or petrify them. They will lose burning / poisoned and start healing from trolls blood again.
You can also do the escapist cheese.
Hannag!
Hannag makes every fight in cloisterwood a joke, if you wish to make it so.
Why you ask? She has lava spells. Yes lava spells. There are small patches of lava near where you find her.
What do trolls hate more than fire? mother ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lava, thats what.
Terrain transmute will kill trolls in a split second flat.
If all else fails, terrain transmute the lava across 300m leaving very very small patches of lava to risk running over in the future :)
All you need is a polymorph with high init., phönix dive and forced exchange.
step 1. hit the polymorph before the fight until he has got as much dmg as possible without dying.
step 2. start the fight
step 3. polymorph gets the first turn, use phönix dive to get to the troll and let him burn
step 4. use forced exchange to almost completly kill him and heal yourself.
step 5. ... i dont think i need to explain the last step, right?
have one guy drop a fire surface, summon an incarnate there which will make its element fire (make sure your party is far enough that they will not be in combat once grog is aggroed), aggro Grog with the incarnate, grog will always cast fortify, when the fight begins move your party to engage in combat, use a charm grenade or a charm arrow to stop him from attacking, wail at him and once his fortify armor is depleted have someone use chicken claw or any ability that will make him completely miss a turn (tentacle lash, sleeping arms, chloroform is good), keep chain disabling him with abilities once he's about to get his turn ( i used chloroform since he has zero magic armor), have your summoner spam fire totems which will make the fight a lot quicker since he has a crapton of hp. I made the mistake of not keeping tabs on who's turn is it and got my rogue and melee guy whacked lol. its actually pretty fun fighting him this way trying to chain disable him
my team comp:
summoner/archer with choloroform
archer/pyro with choloroform
rogue/polymorph (tentacle lash, sleeping arms, chicken claw, choloroform)
knight (pretty much useless cos he's my knockdown guy and grog is immune to knockdown)
