I met Jahan and now I'm sad.
So I was walking through the forest of Driftwood just minding my own business and I came across a strange vendor near a log cabin. After mousing over him my jaw dropped. "Oh ♥♥♥♥! that's Jahan! from the first game!"

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that Jahan was in this game. Immediately I was hit with a nostalgia blast to divinity original sin 1. Jahan was the healer/support for my group from the very first level of the game until the end. I loved his character so much I completed all of his quests, and literally helped him face his inner demons.

Though I immediately started to grow sad when I found out not only does nobody know who he is (my party does not have a clue who Jahan is, only that hes some random forest hobo) but he is completely alone with no friends.

So it got me thinking... whatever happened to Madora? (My other party member in divinity 1) or our original avatars for that matter?

It's hard to believe that someone can literally face and defeat the Apocalypse yet nobody recognizes you and you're forced to live in a dumpy log cabin in the forest. Does nobody respect Jahan, the one who helped save the world from tyranny and annihilation?

To be fair, there were 3 other peeps you could've chosen to take with you to save the world instead of Jahan. Also, maybe the fact that Divinity: Original Sin 2 takes place a thousand or so years after the first has something to do with it also?

Well to be fair the events of the first game took place over 1000 years ago. Most likely his accomplishements (if they were remembered) faded away to myth and legend so it would really be hard for anyone to believe that was the same Jahan. Also I never completed the first game lol, how the heck is he still alive? 0_o

Original Sin 1 occured centuries prior to the current game, so Madora / Beardoiter / Whatever the other one's name is presumably all died of old age. Jahan has the benefit of being immortal.

He also does have a friend! You'll learn more about him if you help him with his quest.

I think Jahan tells you in the first game he made a deal with a demon for immortality, or at least an incredibly long life by human standards.

In my mind, Wolgraff is still out there, spotting traps.

There is a few NPC's that know of Jahan. And Lohse's story involves him a fair bit.

These games are set, 1000? years apart. It makes sense for names to be forgotten. The fact he's in the game is awesome though.

You know... There's always one friend behind your desk, but you can't remember... It's just how it is... :(

and he starts at level 20 in ACT 2, which kinda tells of his importance. Level 20 is the highest npcs can get. Other than Jahan, you will only encounter level 20 dudes in the final act.

Madora hated cats. She died a painful death for this. She now suffers eternal damnation.

The more bizarre fact is how everyone seems to remember events that happened 1000 years ago like it were yesterday. I mean, if I was a burning pig for 1000 years, I would have gone nuts by now.

Some confusion going on in this topic.

From what I understand, DOS2 takes place a thousand years BEFORE DOS1, not after.
Am I wrong?

What made you think that was the case? It is definitely a sequel.

tbh I don't remember exactly. I find Divinity lore hard to follow, though I love the game and listen to the dialogues.

For one it made sense to me that DOS2 explained why Source users were being hunted, and then you play as Source hunters in DOS1.

I now looked up the timeline and see I'm wrong but again it's somewhat confusing to me

spoilers ahead

Jahan made a pact with a demon to live for 1,000 years.
However, Jahan basically went to the DOS version of the Garden of Eden and met Eve, and sometime during these events obtained eternal life.

As he says, he has seen well over 2,000 springs, and will continue to until time itself closes its weary eyes.
