The crocs are insanely good - make sure you are geared up for them before going! Teleporting glove will help you, or get some more experience fighting weaker enemies, doing quests around the town.

You are able to go around them, finding other weaker mobs to kill and quests to finish for xp and loot.

make sure you have a full party before going there. positioning is key. get your ranged characters on the litle wooden scaffolding on the right, they have better vision there and will have a little damage boost.
futhermore make use of the enivorment. there is a fire barrel around the place you will msot likely face the crocs. use that geomancer slow spell (your wayfarer has it, the one that shoots a giant rock) on that area either before the crocs get there or when you can hit at least 1 croc and the barrel. this fire damage will benefit you and the crocs that arent hit will try to move around the fire wich makes them use more action points.

The first couple levels are not very intuitive, and mostly involve puttering around and doing side quests for a bunch of people. To be fair, that's pretty much what you had to do in DOS1 before leaving Cyseal.

But you can devastate the crocs with terrain like a bunch of ice, or water + electricity, or oil + fire. Or move a bunch of barrels near the choke point and blow them up to kill 1-2 crocs instantly.
