Is it possible to have MKV video file with subtitles as a wallpaper
I was testing using a MKV video as a wallpaper but subtitles don't work. Is there some kind of way to have them shown?
The MKV file has the subtitles inside the video file itself but I have no idea why it doesn't show like it would in VLC media player

Seems like Wallpaper Engine cannot display subtitles stored inside a video. You have to reencode the video and burn in the subtitles then they will be shown because they are part of the video. The downside is that you cannot deactivate the subtitles anymore.

Not exactly true. I have something like 3.000+ video files in my playlist. Nearly all of them are MKV. Works as good as mp4 as a container. Depends more on the codec inside the container. AV1 video files usually run worse than x.265 and x.264 using LAV in Wallpaper Engine but overall my mkv files run smooth and without problems.

I don't know how skilled you are in video editing but using Handbrake would be the easiest way. Just open your file with Handbrake and in case the subtitles are already stored in the mkv container you can just go to the subtitle menu and choose "Tracks" --> "Add all remaining tracks". Then choose your desired language and choose "Burn In" and then re-encode the video with the codec of your choice, which you can find in the video section.
