Wallpaper Engine 2.2 has been out for a year now. Did you maybe install the latest Windows updates?

Microsoft is currently doing some crazy changes on the Insider edition of Windows, so we cannot really provide support for it because it changes almost on a weekly basis. If you continue to have these issues on the stable branch of Windows, please let me know. We're actively looking into these latest changes, however.

Hey, Tim. Would like to ask if this new beta update affected the windows insider issue workaround? The workaround that you previously provided I mean. Thanks!

We removed the previous hack we had in place because Microsoft told us they're undoing the changes that caused the initial problem. Since we did something really nasty / hacky, we decided it was best to remove it altogether because realistically, this issue should not be affecting any users anymore within a few weeks.

wallpaper disappears when right clicking on apps in systray.

This is actually pretty disappointing. From my point of view Wallpaper Engine is just permanently broken. It just won't work as intended. It was fine till this new update for WPE.

Just to piggyback on this discussion, I just installed the Windows 11 Moment 4 update and it broke Wallpaper Engine when I clicked on an app in the system tray. Looks like it's tied specifically to something in this preview patch and will potentially happen to everyone when 23H2 drops in it's current state. I hope you guys find a fix for it soon!

Current "fix" is to opt out of the MS Window insider and turn off HDR.
Recently I updated windows and my wallpaper engine since then isn't shown but when I hit the win+tab key I can see that it is active but when I go back to the desktop it isn't, I tried to look for a solution but I found nothing until a while ago I suspended the pc and when I reactivated it there was my wallpaper engine working normally again. It may be useful to you but even so it is a problem that at first it does not work correctly.

I had same issue. No matter how hard I did verify integrity, it just live for few seconds then die immeidately. It's funnier that I feel very uncomfortable looking at my desktop now. I always feel something was missing, the emptiness. LOL. My current system is running stable windows 11.

It's a bit messy now because people here are just replying with wildly different problems. We just cannot provide support like this. So let's summarize:

If you are just using a stable version of Windows and have never opted into the Windows Insider program.

Create a new thread, describe the problem and we will help you. Most of the time we release an update, people write us that the app is broken when really, the new update might just be corrupted through antivirus apps. If you are using an antivirus app, please follow this page first (red box and clean reinstallation, a normal reinstallation often does not suffice):

https://help.wallpaperengine.io/debug/reset.html

Please try this first, it fixes the app for most people who write us emails and posts right now.

If you are using the Windows Insider edition of Windows

We currently cannot fix issues for you because we extensively talked to Microsoft and they are making extreme changes to the desktop experience right now and partially rolling back some recent changes. It's just not realistically possible to provide support for this under the current circumstances though we are working with Microsoft for a long-term solution before these updates go live to stable versions of Windows. We will look at their changes in due time. If you want a stable Windows experience, please opt out of the Windows Insider's program. It sounds harsh but that is the only honest suggestion we can make.
