Shake Effect Question
Hello, all

I'm in the process of making a wallpaper that involves paper lamps swinging in the wind. I figured the shake effect would be the best thing to use to achieve this, but I can't quite seem to get a smooth effect, even referring to the wallpaper engine wiki.

I was wondering if anyone had some recommended settings for smooth swaying using the skake effect, or if there was another way I could reproduce said effect.

Thanks for any help!

Both will work to some extent but one is obviously quite abit more work.

This gif shows my attempt at animating it just using the flat image itself (its a side to side shake animation and an offset rotation shake animation sorry if that doesnt make sense.

this gif is my quick result of removing the lamp completely and animating it on its own layer. theres less background distortion but i didnt exactly spend alot of time trying to get a good clone match so it looks a bit different.

I did something like that in this wallpaper

I tried endless times to get that desired effect but figured out that it was not doable with the WE scene editor mainly because there is no option for easing the shake effect so the movement always looks a little bit too hectic. I then decided to do the swaying of the lamp in After Effects and reimported it back to WE.

I would need to see the image your working with to get a clear idea but the brush opacity, softness and the shake animations flowphase all contribute to making smooth animations. For swaying you can also try using the Water waves effect and crank its scale value way down and make it line up with your lamp with the direction slider.

I appreciate the replies, friends.

I had similar problems to butcho where the effect would look very jerky, especially if the item swaying was closer. The effect actually worked quite well for much farther away items as the reduction in size, but increase in visual distance made the effect much more subtle and 'real' looking.

@Vell Here's the project as it's currently published.

The lamp I was having the most trouble with was the first one on the left side of the image. I'd be happy to take any recommendations on settings to make it swing in a natural way, either through the shake effect or the water wave effect.

Thanks again for the help

I'll have to try both and see which one ends up looking better.

Thanks for the help!

Yes, a very nice picture. Fits very well into wallpaper engine. :-)
