Well, no. SHOULD be very unlikely, as it's within the Steam Workshop the wallpapers are uploaded. But if you want to be ENTIRELY safe, you can stay within the verified wallpapers.

As long as the wallpapers you're downloading are all from Steam, you should be alright.

Application type wallpapers can in theory be anything which is why they are turned off in the filter settings by default. If you don't specifically trust an author of an application wallpaper, we don't recommend using a wallpaper as it's the same as downloading any random software from the internet. Wallpaper Engine will always show you a big, unskippable warning if you start an application type wallpaper for the first time so you never need to worry about accidentally downloading and running one.

I doubt that. I stumbled upon workshop items where mostly asian folks put cracked games online and camouflaged them as wallpapers for WPE.

Who knows what other stuff lurks in the shadow of the Steam workshop. :lunar2019laughingpig: so sticking to scene and web wallpapers should be fine

There is nothing to "repair." They cannot control what users upload unto their Worskshop profile. BUT they can remove and punish.
