"play from my system" wut? so my "system" can play mp3 files or does it need to integrate to the wallpaper engine because I tried to play with windows media player and it does nothing for my "audio responsive wallpaper"

What the other user meant by "system" is that Wallpaper Engine will react to ANY sound played on your system from any program. Due to how sound recording works, it's actually not possible to differentiate between programs, so Wallpaper Engine will always react to any sound played from any program.

Usually it should just work out of the box. To make sure there is nothing wrong with your wallpaper, try using a popular audio responsive wallpaper like this one:

If that does not react to sounds played on your computer, there may be something wrong with your Wallpaper Engine settings. Try to go to the "General" tab in the Wallpaper Engine settings and change the "audio input device" around and see if any of the audio input devices start working (obviously you probably don't want it to react to your microphone, though).

If you cannot get the audio responsiveness to work with the wallpaper I linked above and by trying all audio input devices listed by Wallpaper Engine, please use our scan tool and share your log file as described here:

I have been having trouble with all audio responsive wallpapers, I do not have an audio input device tab. Anyone know why?
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

So i have just went on the site and read it i changed my audio to the 44100 Hz sound and still the same problem. I go to general settings in wallpaper engine and have no tab in general for media to find audio input, so therefor cant select 'Speakers (Razer XYZ)' because im using a USB razer headset with thx audio. if it helps im using the razer kraken tournament edition. and just to be clear this audio responsive if off of like sounds on YT vids and spotify music right?

You should always see this option in the "General" tab of the Wallpaper Engine settings. Please check again, depending on your Razer hardware there may be slight differences (there are just too many Razer headsets, I don't know them all).

and just to be clear this audio responsive if off of like sounds on YT vids and spotify music right?

Yes, it does not matter what is producing the sound, you can just listen to Spotify or watch a YouTube video while testing.
I'm currently in the general tab of settings and my options under audio is
Audio output and i have that checked as yes i want audio output

Audio recording device. i have that set as my headset

Recording volume is at 100

Recording threshold is at 5

Thats all my options for anything to do with audio. but i have just discovered something, when i do a check to see if anything is conflicting with wallpaper engine when you start it on steam, it says something along the lines of "razer headset software might cause problems with audio responsive wallpapers please change it to ignore wallpaper engine" so that's probably my problem but there is no special spot in razer that i know of to ignore certain apps im still searching on google but no luck. and i don't know of any specific software i installed for my headset

Sorry, I just realized we forgot to update the wording in the FAQ. The "Audio recording device" is what was previously called "Audio input device". Please check all possible options there of "audio recording device". Razer headsets with THX support should offer additional devices in that list. If unsure, try all devices while listening to music.

If none of the audio devices work, try reinstalling your Razer software suite while Wallpaper Engine is turned off and try again. Worst case, please contact Razer, they are fully aware that their THX software breaks audio recording and they usually have some headset-specific workarounds that you can use to get it to work again.

This problem affects not just Wallpaper Engine and is a driver-level issue that comes with Razer's THX / virtual 7.1 software as it breaks the way that Windows records audio.
Thanks for the help, i was able to get it to work with your info. Thanks again

Just discovered this but also check at the playback setting for "Other application playing audio" and set it to keep running.
