How to fast forward a video wallpaper?
I downloaded a video wallpaper and was wondering if there is any way to fast forward to a specific part of the video

No, this is not possible, Wallpaper Engine is not a video player. You can look at the source file and play it in a video player if you want to by right-clicking on the wallpaper and then select "Open in Explorer".

Thank you for the response!

Hello there,

As I use WE to play very long videos (1-2h), wouldn't it be possible to implement a hotkey to skip e.g. 5 or 10 Minutes? This way, when I start Windows, I don't always have to look from the beginning.

Greetings

I think it would be a reasonable feature to let the program just pick a random time in the video and start playing there, but actual playback controls seem to really go out of the scope of Wallpaper Engine.

This is the list of requested features where I added this: https://steamcommunity.com/app/431960/discussions/0/1500126447391526102/

As you can see there is a lot and even this option to start playing at a random point in time won't be useful for almost all video files here on the Workshop. I agree it would make sense for long videos, but most long videos aren't really wallpapers, there are exceptions though.

The video system that we are using may also render artifacts and glitch out when skipping parts of the video and this will lead to a lot of problems for us. We are bound to certain video systems for legal reasons, the most popular video codecs are heavily license protected and we have to take care of handling them correctly.

If you have such a long video, I would recommend just manually cutting it into different parts and then creating a playlist of all the parts of the video. Ultimately, that has the same effect as what you describe as any of the sections will be played "at random" each time you start your computer.

I highly recommend MKVToolNix for a task like this. Easy as ♥♥♥♥ to cut videos into different parts, just drag the file into the tool and in the "Output" menu just set Split mode to "After output duration" and enter something like 5m for 5 minutes long video parts or 10m for ten minutes, 1h for one hour and so one.

Thanks for your replies -

Jumping to a random point in the video would be totally fine by me - in fact, it adds something that I really like, because you would get a different result every time, which really helps long videos staying interesting. So please stick to that feature list :)
