Aseprite
Does tracing images keep the high quality on the reference image?
I'm thinking about buying this software to learn pixel art but i want to trace over images that are like 1024+ pixels . I noticed this software allows tracing, how does it work, does it keep the image the same size but yet allow you to draw 32x32 etc... A problem with photoshop is if you make a 32x32 canvas but then try to fit a 1024+ size image on it you have to scale it down and it becomes unrecognizeable. Does Asesprite do something different?

Yes, it allows the reference image to be a higher resolution than the actual canvas you're placing pixels on.
Nice one more question, if i buy it on steam can i only run it in steam or do i get a key i can use to download from their website also?

Hi CJ, about this, please refer to this discussion: https://steamcommunity.com/app/431730/discussions/0/152390648079925737/

If you already know that you will need a standalone/DRM-free key, please prefer the website, itch.io, or the Humble Bundle Store options.
Ok just bought Aseprite, how do I load in a reference image on top of a 32x32?
You need to be in the beta branch for that feature, currently. Then go to Layer > Add Reference Layer

Hi SpaceCapsule, the beta is available to be downloaded through the regular channels (e.g. your Humble Bundle library). For more information: https://community.aseprite.org/t/get-aseprite-beta-version/22?u=dacap

thanks! Humble doesn't show what those other downloads are, you just have to click the download button and then see the filename its trying to save.. I was wondering why there was 3 downloads available in my humble email! can't wait to try it!

Yeah, the Humble Bundle UI is really messy showing what you will download, I tried to fixed but that would be only possible re-releasing a stable version (e.g. a v1.1.14 version). I hope it will be easier when v1.2 is made official.

is there a way to zoom only the reference layer?
Find its right bottom corner and use Move tool (Shortcut: V). This corner could be quite invisible if your reference layer is sprite with transparency, but eventually you'll find it. This feature is still beta-only, in full version I expect to have some sort of bounding rectangle around reference layer image.

awesome! thanks! it's simple once you realize its there! I think it should rather be in the dialogue where you right click the layer and get to Properties.. seems the more logical place.
