Berseria starts out in a darker tone, but then goes into a brighter tone eventually. And after that, it changes to more mature tone as the characters keep developing. BTW, have you tried out the demo?
But i don't think is a good "tales of" that can impress you and make you a fan of the series.
if you buy Berseria try to bet it at less lol
Often times they are however shrouded in a ♥♥♥♥ ton of light comedy and friendship kind of tones.
Tales of Graces F is a prime example of tonning down the darkness to a baby level literally.
Tales of Xillia 2 took the right step and kept the darkness and erased the light, making it the darkest Tales game to date. You literally have the option to slaughter everyone to stop your brother from sacrificing his life which does nothing cause he will still die, not to mention the blood stained across your face if you choose this path
Tales of Zesteria was neighter bright or dark, it was in between.
Tales of Beseria is more Dark but turns light, the storyline in the beginning defines this.
and that organized religion is bad lol
Try Xenogears if you want a mature, dark story. Tale is just the wrong series
I've pointed this out a few times, but in this game not only can you gamble and murder everyone- you also watch a man impale a child with a spear and then fight a character with that child hanging on the spear. It still got a 16/T rating so I really haven't the faintest idea how that got through and yet this scene is "above 16."
(SPOILERS FOR TALES OF THE ABYSS AND VESPERIA)
In Tales of the Abyss a whole town with tons of people in it gets destroyed because the main character was too naive and stupid to realize who the bad guy really was. In Tales of Vesperia the main protagonist essentially turns into a vigilante who murders criminals in cold blood. Vesperia also had a scene where a man commits seppuku.
Yet despite those dark moments the games still have enough humor and lightheartedness that the dark moments don't define the entire adventure or the characters. I expect Berseria will be the same in this regard.
