I was really looking forward to it, seemed like fast paced Bloodborne style combat mixed with Witcher-esque character interaction. what i got was something completely different.
honestly if you hate the start, its mostly downhill from there. the story feels kinda forced and rushed (espicially chapter 4 - 5). the combat is unbalanced and kinda janky and the people you interact with soon become emotionaless robots.
shame it could of been a really enjoyable experience, i just find the more i get through the game the more im wishing it was over.
IMO the story is fine until right after you take care of Swansea. Then it falls apart and turns into a blatant one-track fetch quest+kill the boss. Chapter 7 might as well had been one giant cutscene. Think the backstory exposition should have been spread out a bit more rather than dumping it all on a single NPC in a single encounter.
If you are having performance issues, I can't say why, but I can say that I run the game at 75fps at max settings with no problems.
Maybe email their support and see what they can do for you.
thats why I had to laugh, because the use Doris' theater twice (plus for a side quest) it felt kinda clear they tried to get the most out of the least amount of assets and then bang a whole new area for an epilogue. clearly the castle was probaly planned to be used more.
so for performance i had framerate drops (mostly walking towards Pembroke hospital and certain other areas) and the game would crash until i turned txaa off. in certain areas, like the sewers, the lighting looked glitched as ♥♥♥♥. yet i can run Quake Champions on Ultra (which is a game plagued by performance issues for many people) with a stable 120fps.
you're right, there arent many great vampire games since its a bit of a niche. honestly with a bit more work and refinement it could of been one of the best games ive played.
for good games with vampires, though dated the Legacy of Kain/ Soul Reaver series was alright and Castlevania Symphony of the Night. for similar games that dont have vampire per se, for gamplay would recomend Bloodbourne if you have access to a PS4 or for PC The Witcher 3 was freakin awesome and has that sort of lore to it.
i played vampyr since release and then made a break ( until now and started a new save)... so until now i had two crashes (like you said entering Pembroke hospital area and sleeping at pembroke(one of 7 times)) , so I think they did something wrong while patching....but never got performance issues (16 gb ram, nvidia geforce gtx1050Ti, AMD Ryzen 5 2400G .....if it helps
Soul Reaver.... truly it was a great series :D
yeah i really wish they would bring Soul Reaver back. some really cool lore.
