I've been sucking down people whenever I get the chance and I'm around level 10 or 11 right now, and it still hasn't improved. I've seen a couple people suggest it improves automatically over the course of the main story. But like I said already, the demo videos showed the player with a much higher Mesmerize skill at this point in the story than what I currently have. So that doesn't seem to be the case.
Unless those people showing off the game used some kind of cheats to artificially bump it up, which sounds unlikely.
That is complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ if true, because the entire point of this game was that you would have the option to choose to quick and easy route, or the slow and hard route!
But then why did the player in the demo videos have a high enough mesmerize to affect NPC's associated with this quest, where as I do not? I've played through the main story up to this point, or at least I think I did, because I assume this is part of the main quest. SO unless they changed something during the development process, I should have the same level of Mesmerize.
Which storyline? I was informed there would be multiple endings.
"This has a major effect on how players will approach leveling in Vampyr. Whenever a citizen is embraced and killed, the world will shift and change for the worse, making it a good idea to keep characters alive until Dr. Reid’s mesmerize level allows him to suck the blood of multiple characters. Slowly killing characters off will create a situation where some areas will be no longer useful (merchants will stop stocking important goods)."

@GrandMajora
There are actually approx. 256 different endings, depending on what choices you make throughout the game; but 4 main ones endings each with a different cutscene.
Well, I think I've gotten the ending where I kill everybody and the ending where almost nobody dies. I say "almost" because I don't think I saved everybody who was trapped by NPC's. But I did get the "Not Even Once" achievement for not embracing anybody.
Nice....
On a sidenote, I have yet to finish my first run through to endgame. I read about the four different endings here:
https://segmentnext.com/
...but didn't actually read any of the four ending spoilers found here:
https://segmentnext.com/2018/06/09/vampyr-endings-guide/
,,,and about the 256 possibilities when taking into consideration who to turn/sacrifice, kill or be left alone from another article or non-Steam forum (can't recall where exactly).
(Off topic) Here is a link to an article about someone admiting how much they have spent on Steam products I found interesting.
I just thought I'd share:
