Mary boss fight is completely stupid if you do "no kill" playthrough
I did all quests i found, level 18, she is level 21.

When you get her about at 25% HP her attack pattern becomes completely insane and her entire swing animations are faster than my 2handed weapon parry animation, meaning i cannot even parry her attacks anymore to stun her.

Never mind trying to attack her, complete suicide, because her pattern change time from idle after attack to attacking again takes so little time that she just cancels my attack animation with thestagger of hers even before i finished a swing.

Also, permanent damage AoE and knockdown all the time thanks to those blood pods that spawn every 3 seconds.

Also, she becomes vulerable when stops and starts vomiting blood, okay, but you will not know if she does that OR instead the OP scream area attack that WILL likely insta-kill you since it does insane damage, it has the same animation as vomiting, so you can not even tell what she is going to do. Also she almost never does that in the < 25% phase.

I guess i will have to start sucking some people, because clearly this game has not been balanced properly if you want to do a "good guy" run. Or rather, it's easy until this boss, like from zero to completely insane change. Next time DONTNOD stick to your interactive movies.

It's from the Soulsbornes games. It means "get good" and implies the person's issue with the game is due to their lack of skills instead of something related to balance, gameplay, bug...

1. Do evil, loads of XP, game becomes probably too easy.

2. Do good, always be underpowered, bosses become kiting fests / cheese fests / 1-hit-kill fests, get to the final boss and be 15 levels underleveled and get rekt ( i read this info from someone that already arrived there with "good path")

Sorry to say this, but you are describing just the easiest difficulty vs. the highest difficulty here.
The game is supposed to be very easy if you feed on everyone vs. very hard if you feed on nobody.

What do you do if a game becomes to difficult to progress any further? Reduce the difficulty setting in the game - in this case: feed on people. The game is pretty clear about the fact that this is your difficulty setting.

Sure you can do option 3 and "exploit" the game. But that's your decision.

Does it affect my "humanity" if I kill / embrace the priest during the fight?
Considering she does exactly that during the fight he's dead meat anyways, but I'd rather not make the fight even harder by allowing her to regenerste herself.
(Pacifist run, no NPC kills so far)

Kill the priest yourself . Wont affect anything because embracing citizens actually change your eyes and face but killing the priest during the fight with Mary doesn't change anything.

Thanks!
Another thing (as I can still leave the battle and return later) - would I have been able to obtain a much better weapon than the level 2 axe by now? Except for biting and using claws, I'm hardly able to damage her noticeably and I'd rather put this part of the game behind me asap.

You should be around LVL 17-18 with pacifist run. She is only resistant to blood dmg.
Use the chirugical saw + stun offhand to get unlimited blood / heals incase she hits you.
Upgrade your weapons and you could also respec if you have too low health/stamina.

Save your abyss ultimate for the last phase if you have such a hard time and simply wreck her.
If you have enough endurance, you can unleash combos by combining melee attacks->claws->melee->coagulation->claws->melee->abyss->claws->melee....

I cleared the entire graveyard ghuls at once at level 3, the mobs maybe hit hard but if you stun+bite them you have unlimited heals -> easypeacylemonsqueezy ...

You can upgrade the weapons on the same table you use to mix cures.

I know (and already did so), but I haven't found or bothered buying the "good handle parts" needed to do so so far.

I've done all the sidequests except the gravedigger and bomb location one, which - I assume - are in an area the story will only take me later on. I'm at level 14 and have about 9000 XP points but try to avoid sleeping as much as possible once I noticed how everything "works".

This fight is not easy but it's not impossible. Eat the priest, keep your stamina, watch for bloodsplatters. And be patient. If she block your punch - dodge immediately. Your time to hit - right after her strikes. Two in first phase, three in second.
Bosses in DS series for me were way harder. So...

Git gud )

I did this quest on level 14 too but it seemed too hard without feedin gon priest so i just killed him myself to stop mary from regenerating. You really need to spend your xp points buy useful skills like abyss and increasing stamina.

@lastbreath
Yeah, I didn't touch DS (yet) but finished The Surge... I see the similarities here, even though Vampyre tends to throw 3+ enemies at you at once and the bossfights seem a little more chaotic.

@TimeTr4veler
Made the mistake of just uprading health, stamina and all bite-related skills to level 4-5, but never bothered about any other offensive powers thinking I won't need the rest for a pacifist run. Oh, well... guess I'm going to spend those 9000XP now...

She definitly is'nt harder than bosses in dark souls that's for sure. While she is'nt "easy", her patterns are quite simplistic. Took me around 3-5 tries, but I defenitly felt more pressure from the sherif like boss. What's weird is that she should be much weaker than you story wise being your child but hey.

Anyway, shotgun her to oblivon and don't forget you don't have to dodge, her attacks, you can just straight her run until she starts vomiting (that works for a lot of enemies). Does the stun power work on her? I did'nt have it back then.
Vicious Jun 7, 2018 @ 10:48am
I'm not going to report you or anything like that, but you might want to mark spoilers for people who care. Especially not puttign her name in the title

Same position as the op here (level 15 no kills). And no, get gud is not fair in this instance because it really does depend on your character progression, in this case I have only one claw ability, heal and just upgraded stamina and health - going back and gaining another offensive skill is not an option for me trying to go for a no kill playthrough. If you breeze all the other bosses thus far and then come to this cheapo boss then something is amiss.

What I am finding is the counter window vanishes or reduces in her final form up until that point I can counter 90% of her attacks. Your stamina gets eaten away more if you try to dodge too much due to her blood fog, and she has insane distance closing which is harder to counter.

I tried using quick dragonbane weapon and that was so weak it took too long. The when in final form, got taken down again. I am not after tips because I know I can beat her, but please stop saying get gud.
