please help question about dolls

I am at the point in the game where;

I have confronted the dolls.
They shot me several times.
The scenario with the dolls shooting me is something that sppears that I cannot return to at this point in my game.
In my game there is no hideaway directly right of the initial doll shooting me.
My game has reverted me to exploration mode although it appears impossible to reach the doorway that is suspended in the air.
The monster is now killing me (no more doll shooting me)

But how is this possible when the doll sits at the top of the staircase shooting? The doll does not move from this position at all.
