Heyo!

At this time we currently have no plans. As with anything, if there's enough demand, we can look into it, but alas, we have only had a couple of requests.

Do you see many Linux games? Pardon my ignorance, but I know next to nothing about Linux games, so it helps to have references. Thanks!

The fact you're open to the idea is all I can ask. Hopefully the demand picks up.

I personally own over 200 Linux games on Steam and another 100+ on GOG, Itch.io and Humble. So far there appear to be 4203 Linux games on Steam out of 19635. That's 21.4% which if you look at the fact that just 4 years ago there were no Linux games on Steam that's a decent number. So yeah I would say I am seeing more and more Linux games.

If you have any questions feel free to ask me or jump on the Linux Gaming sub reddit.

Hardcore, man. :)

Do you have any thoughts about do's and don'ts? Any projects that do it right or not-so-right? If we did get the go-ahead to make it happen, it always helps to know that sort of thing.

Some good things to keep in mind would be planning from the start.

Sometimes developers pick an engine that is Linux compatible but use middleware that isn't which makes the whole process much more work.

I would also recommend having a Linux system to test builds of the game on because even if the engine will compile it you may have unforseen issues. If you don't have a system that you can use to troublshoot on it's tough to offer support for the game.

Choose 1-2 distros of Linux to support. Many devs get overwhelmed thinking that if they make a Linux version that they have to be able to make it work on 300+ distros of Linux but that's not true. 99% of Linux gamers will just be happy it works on 1-2 and will make it work on whatever they use.

Finally be very honest with timeframes and update the customers often. Just today I was reading a forum where a dev said the Linux port would take 2 weeks and a month goes by and nobodys heard any news. Dev comes back and says they're having issues and they hired a Linux guy and it will be 1 more week. Another month goes by wih no updates with the dev saying it won't happen. Whether the news is good or bad just tell us when you can. Also if you run into specific problems tell the people, you'd be surprised how often the Linux community can help.

Great help, thank you!
+1 for Linux! I definitely agree with PublicNuisance. I am not sure if you guys would be looking to do an in-house port or to out-source it, but if you wanted to talk pricing or feasibility with out-sourcing, you could talk to Feral Interactive. Looks like a great game!

Thanks for the heads up! I will keep this in mind!
For those interested I have had success playing Perception using Proton. I broke down while Perception was on sale. I am in chapter 2 so far with only one issue. The game launches in Windowed mode every time so I have to set it to fullscreen each time but other than that no errors or glitches so far. Performance is a constant 120 FPS so far as well.

AMD Ryzen 5 2600X | 16GB DDR4-3000 CL15 | MSI RX 580 8GB Gaming X | Mesa 19.0.4 | Samsung 850 Evo 250GB | Manjaro 18.0.4 | Mate 1.22.1 | Kernel 5.1.4-1-MANJARO | Proton 4.2-5

The kind who failed a programming class twice that only used Game Maker haha. Luckily the true ninjas at Wine and Valve have done a good job with Proton so many Windows games are now much easier to get running in Linux.
