Difference between borderless window and windowed fullscreen?
Hey, guys. Just bought the game ^_^ looked pretty fun. Got a question though.

What's the difference between borderless window and windowed fullscreen? I've always thought of these options as synonymous but both are available as options.

I've tried both and they both look and act the same (as far as I can tell)

Thanks!

Borderless makes switching between multiple monitors easier at small performance cost.

but that's what fullscreen windowed does as well...

If you actually did click the link you would find your anserw

Fullscreen gives the game exclusive control of the monitor, while borderless runs the game in a window that covers the entire screen. The main practical difference is that the game in borderless has to obey desktop window manager like any other window, and that includes its vsync.

Hi. Sorry, i think there's some confusion. I was asking about "windowed fullscreen" and "borderless window". i already know what "fullscreen" and "windowed" is.

The first link only talks about fullscreen vs borderless window

Theres 3 modes

Fullscreen Mode
True fullscreen. The background services take a "break" and the monitor i controlled by the game.

Windowed Mode
The game does not controll the monitor windows does, and everything on all your screens is processed while the game runds.

Borderless Windowed
Its basically the same as windowed mode. It tells the game to run Fullscreen, but its actualy just running a window. So its still rendering the things happening in the background in windows.

Pros: Lets you enjoy full-screen display while still switching monitors easily.
Cons: Background processes can introduce input lag and frame rate drops.

Was that a better explanation?

If you'd actually read the question properly and maybe checked out the game's settings you'd realise this game has 4 options instead of the usual 3 and the question is about borderless window vs windowed fullscreen. As opposed to your rather demeaning link which is giving results for borderless window vs fullscreen.

Funny enough you take time to rant, but contribute nothing to the post.

windowed fullscreen.
The game is running in a window but is acting like its running in Fullscreen. You cant move your cursor off screen like you can in borderless windowed, but if you ALT TAB the game will still be open like a normal window in windows. If you were running True fullscreen, the game would be minimised when you pressed alt tab.

The Difference modes are basically different ways of the monitor to render the processes in game and to tell who is the boss of the processer.
In windowed mode and borderless windowed mode, you can get screen tearing. Vsyn is controlled by windows and not the game. Where Fullscreen mode its the game that controlls Vsyns ect ect.

Windowed fullscreen they try to give you the benefit of fullscreen even though you are running it in a window.

I hope that helps.

In an FPS matter, true Fullscreen will always be better than ANY windowed mode. But sometimes you really want to have the option to alt tab there for the different windowed modes.

I see :) I think I understand. In windowed fullscreen, the background processes pause like fullscreen, has the fullscreen options like vsync but it has the advantage of easy alt-tabbing (where in borderless window, no pausing occurs).

Thanks!
