Increase LOD distance?
Is there a way to increase LOD distance beyond what the video options menu allows? The current maximum is pretty weak. At max settings the game isn't taxing my PC nor does it look all that great when massive structures like stations, asteroids, and other celestial bodies suddenly warp into view like its No Man's Sky all over again.

I'm still barely beyond the prologue however, maybe the bigger and more epic space fights with dozens of ships around would kill framerates but right now this is an issue that is really bugging me.

Using an Alienware 17 R4 laptop. GTX 1060 6gb, i7 7700HQ@2.80GHz->3.80GHz, 16gb 2667MHz. Game is installed in an SSD.

Ah, forgot to mention that I'm running the game at 1080p as well, I don't have a 4k monitor yet and when buying this laptop I didn't think that 4k would even be distinguishable from 1080p on a 17.3-inch screen.

Hi San-Kyu, it is possible to increase draw distance, but I don't advise it atm because it would be tedious process.

Each model/mesh file (.mdl) in an assembly file (.asb) has two parameters:
1 - StreamDistance: XX.00 - distance at what engine starts streaming model
2 - DrawDistance: XX.00 - distance at what engine starts rendering it on screen

We are thinking about adding slider to control draw distance, but currently we are still working on fixing bugs and trying to give our players best possible experience. :)

Yikes, yeah that would mean I'd have to edit each and every one of them wouldn't it? Well the game seems pretty fun at the very least, really liking the automation given for combat and the extra complexity you guys put in with the player having to take into account positioning much more than just most space sims. I finally feel that I'm not just in a fighter jet flying around space-like environment. I'll just put the weird cut ins on the mental backburner for now.

Still thanks for the prompt reply. Please do make an LOD slider an option in a future update.

I think this needs to be addressed ASAP. Anything with size to it pops in WAY too late. Also, the "dithering" effect you use is very distracting. I thought the video option to remove dithering would help but it doesn't seem to do anything. Can't you just change the opacity to bring objects into sight for a smoother transition? Dithing into a solid object right in front of you is bush league at best.

Everything is maxed on my system, by the way.

I'll make a note for the programmers about this, if there isn't one already. I'm guessing basically a multiplier slider, but I'm not a programmer, so something that might seem simple to me could be quite different in reality.

Is there any update on this? Could someone explain how to increase it manually? Do I need to edit each file or is there a master value I can edit somewhere? Really my only gripe about the game! :spacemonster:

I can confirm this is an issue. More then once I have tdrived onto an enemy base and had to leave and come back becuase I poped right on top of it so the rendering never triggers.

The LOD slider has now been included in the options, but the max on that setting is still way too low. Max was probably what it was originally, early on in the game the Concordia HQ still pops in abnormally, given its size. I could only imagine that the 4k-res people have it worse.

How about this, it seems you devs put in these LOD distances based on some arbitrary value, its probably impossible to accurately depict the scale of space, instead make object pop in when the player would see them as a spec from their perspective. Would that demand insane computing power? Maybe. But some of us have PCs that can take it.

Other things that require some hefty LOD remaking would be asteroid and junk fields. Couldn't these be rendered from afar similar to nebulae?

the pop-ins are still present in the latest version (LOD distance maxed)

Well that sucks - that is a big pet peave of mine

trying to push this thread up again. has anyone found a way to increase the distance? (other than doing the tedious thing in rep#2)

You can just use Notepad++ for it. Search for the strings and replace in files. Takes like a minute to do.

I mean i knew that but since this rep by TheMihic mention about adding slider to control draw distance last year. i was wondering is it in yet.
