Each model/mesh file (.mdl) in an assembly file (.asb) has two parameters:
1 - StreamDistance: XX.00 - distance at what engine starts streaming model
2 - DrawDistance: XX.00 - distance at what engine starts rendering it on screen
We are thinking about adding slider to control draw distance, but currently we are still working on fixing bugs and trying to give our players best possible experience. :)
Still thanks for the prompt reply. Please do make an LOD slider an option in a future update.
Everything is maxed on my system, by the way.
How about this, it seems you devs put in these LOD distances based on some arbitrary value, its probably impossible to accurately depict the scale of space, instead make object pop in when the player would see them as a spec from their perspective. Would that demand insane computing power? Maybe. But some of us have PCs that can take it.
Other things that require some hefty LOD remaking would be asteroid and junk fields. Couldn't these be rendered from afar similar to nebulae?
You can just use Notepad++ for it. Search for the strings and replace in files. Takes like a minute to do.
I mean i knew that but since this rep by TheMihic mention about adding slider to control draw distance last year. i was wondering is it in yet.
