The amount of elitism and gatekeeping I see on every "no ghost" thread is rather depressing. Deities forbid that someone else enjoy the game in a different manner or put forth a convincing argument about why it's not a fun mechanic; just skip on past their thoughtful paragraph so you can heart out "git gud" into the text field, I guess. The sheer number of mods for the two previous Spelunky games that exist solely to remove the ghost should have been a neon sign telling the devs to include it as a baseline option this time around.
Early on one of the cheat engine tables could turn the ghost off entirely (timer, pot, disfavor), but those cheat tables are very out of date at this point.
Removing the ghost would diminish the gameplay.
It would be like disabling the countdown timer in a Super Mario game.
