Agreed on crowded.
But obviously either game is great in its own right and it just depends on you and your tolerance for the genre's unforgiving nature. You can't go wrong starting off with either if you like getting challenged.
I don't get this idea that one has to be better than the other even though subjectively in most cases one will be better for you over the other. Enjoy both even if you like one more over the other.
It's good to be spoiled for choice.
Spelunky 1 is a perfect game. I never feel like a death is anything but my own fault. I either succeed on my own or I die. In this game I feel that some deaths are simply game design over my skill but again... is it because I have yet to learn the game? I just don't know. I do feel that this is a 7 compared to the 9 of the original on a personal, pointless, score system.
I do feel the game is far too busy and less pure but ask me again in 580 hours and I may have changed my mind :)
Overcrowded? Maybe more than the first one on average, but remember hell? Now that's a crowd. I don't think there's a level in 2 that's as crowded as hell was.
