Instance Rendering: Collecting Feedback
We'd love to hear feedback. No matter what your feedback, let us know how the new instance rendering tech is working out for you!

This new system will be OFF by default. Should you wish to enable this system, go to the VIDEO options and select the “Instanced Rendering” option, as seen in the below image (click link):

Instance Rendering Image

There are known issues with this technology for a certain series of video cards. The GeForce 400 and 500 series in particular. As such, we did not want to leave this new system on by default and want to leave it up to the end user to enable. If you do not have a 400 or 500 series video card (or equivalent) and still experience issues (once enabled), please let us know with your video card model and driver version

Instanced Rendering Explanation

Instanced Rendering is a new addition to the engine and therefore will be OFF by default while we deploy it for public testing. This new rendering system takes batches of world geometry, or draw calls previously done by the CPU and places the work on the GPU. This means, underutilized GPUs can do more work and take the load off the bottlenecked Rendering Thread. Players with low frequency CPUs (sub 3.0Ghz) and a high-end GPU (Geforce GTX 980+) for example, might experience better and more stable framerate while playing.

Additionally, this system does not use LODs on instanced geometry and as a result there are no popping or visible transitions in mesh geometry while moving around the level.

Thanks!
- Mike

Tried out the Instance Rendering. For the most part, performance was the similar, but slightly worse than before enabling Instance Rendering. Still noticed pop-in at about the same distances as without IR. This is probably good by your metrics as my GPU is terrible; AMD 7870 paired with a 4.4 GHz 3570k (long story involving miners and waiting for Vega). Settings are all at medium, with textures and world geometry at high and FoV at 91. Driver revision is 17.7.1.

However, I did spot one bizarre glitch that only takes place the the helicopter training map (not VNSU or TE An Lao, or Song Be) wherein the tree textures will vanish as you get closer to them, then reappear as you back off. Makes the map look very spooky. If it spreads to the other map builds it could be exploitable as you can spot enemies through the tree textures that should be at A and B.

For the most part I see a solid 60 FPS at all times when I don't have this type of rendering enabled but with it on it drops into the mid to low 40s at times. I play the game with the settings maxed out and FoV is 90. I am using the current driver for my card.

GTX980, i5 6400 2.8Ghz, it felt a lot more consitent fps I was getting. Also less noticeable input lag in air in full server.

instanced rendering made a big difference to me before i was geting 15 to 30 fps max with everything running on ultra weird thing was if i changed all the settings to low my performance got even worse but now with the instanced rendering i am getting 30 to 60fps with the settings on medium. still it is not stable but the game is finally playable for me it feels smooth and i only sometimes get any stuttering issues (depends on the map) thank you tripwire! hope you guys can get this game to run even better i know i have a outdated rig but i was running red orchestra 2 and rising storm on 50 to 70 fps with everything on high please get RS2 on that level hope this feedback helps you guys out peace!

Didn't really notice much difference, maybe just a tad worse? No complaints though, it runs great with and w/out instanced rendering.

[ i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz ]
[ NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (GeForce Driver version 358.28) ]
[ 16 GB RAM ]
[ All graphics setting in game set to Ultra/High ]

Before I turned it on I got some variation in my framerate, like 58– 65. But after I turned it on I was having a solid 62 FPS and my game seemed smoother to me. When this option does roll out I will most likely be using it.

i5 4690K @4.5 GHz + R9 290 latest drivers. No performance gain, still stuttering like hell. I have to completely unlock FPS to have like 200+ to get rid of stuttering with disabled VSync and borderless windowed mode 1080p. FPS all over the place, from 80 to 240 (just like normal). Also mannequins on training field are disappearing at certain positions of camera.

Instanced rendering is a definite improvement. FPS still isnt stable for me but significantly higher on average.
LOFIN Aug 23, 2017 @ 11:16am
Signifficantly higher FPS
i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 strix 8GB
16 GB RAM
All set to Ultra except for shadows (high) and VSync off aswell FXAA.
Playing on a 144Hz monitor.

In one hand perfomance overall seems quite smooth compared as it was before (I dont experience that much stuttering), my average fps are now over 130fps. I used to get frame drops to a min. of 50fps, now the min is 100fps in the most demanding map areas
(I only have issues in Song Be where the average is 80fps). On the other hand I have the perception that the new render method affects image quality (for ex. the foliage in the B cap in An Lao Valley seems less dense).

Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti

Instance Rendering is really helping me to run the game faster. Game feels smoother, FPS is subjectively higher (just from stat fps - from original 25-30 to 50-60). Graphics, on the same settings as I had on the previous patch (not test branch) looks somehow better - maybe it is because of objects are not poping up and are visible all the time.
My graphics card is the "problematic" series, so probably constant flickering of the textures of the surroundings is known bug.
Thank you Tripwire for implementing this technology. It looks promising.

I assume this would have zero benefit for me?

I'm running a 1080 Ti FE and 4790k.

we believe we know the cause for the training map and are looking at a fix before 1.03 rolls out officially

many visual errors,
could you please provide more info such as screenshots and location coordinates? also which map(s) in particular? thanks!
