Scout Recon
I see a lot of talk about how Northern scout recon is unrealistic and overpowering. The US team has no way to hide from it, not can they decipher when it is active.

My suggestion: Enemy players are only visible to recon when a Scout role is in their vicinity. (50-100m not sure exactly what would be best.) You're a Northern commander and all of your scouts are dead? No recon for you.

Pointmen/Scouts for the South could call out when a Vietnamese Scout class is in the vicinity, similar to when he spots a mine. And the Vietnamese Scout would emit radio chatter when his recon is active.

Right now there is no incentive for Vietnamese Scouts to actually scout, and this would make the role more vital, while also nerfing the Northern OP recon. Plus the Scout could get spotter assists similar to the Loach.

its scout in name only, they'd be better off caling the scout "assault" or "infiltrator" class or something because of the smoke and submachinegun

i think the commie recon is ok, it only simulates villagers and collaborators giving up the position of GIs whereas the US recon is physically conducted by aircraft

I like the overpoweredness myself. That and Ho Chi Mihn counter the US assets really nicely I think. Recon is kind of like an asset of it's own as VC secure many 1v1 kills from it.

its not a bad proposal for scouts to be a part of NV recon, i've considered it myself, but i ultimately feel like BigDuke says and it seems like a decent counterbalance and feels like it 'could' be considered realistic enough for my liking. everytime i see the little eye-ball icons i imagine a kid in a tree with a radio or something vietnamesey.

That's what I think it's supposed to be, anyway. People in trees/civilians in disguise who let the NVA know about troop movements. As annoying as it is to deal with as US when it gets you killed, I think it's a worthy trade off to stop the US from finding too low key map areas where they can constantly spawn.
