Hi -Dare Devil/x/, thanks for the reply.
I'll reboot both my modem and router, try another couple matches, and report back.
Thanks again for the response, as I'd love to be able to play both Rising Storm games regularly again.
Hi -Dare Devil/x/,
Apologies for the late reply. I rebooted my router a few days ago after your suggestion and tried playing again today, but timed out again just about 5 minutes into the game. It seems like it's happening at almost the exact same time each match - I mentioned I'd try this previously, but when I try again I will actually time it to see if it's exact or near exact, which would be indicative of something I haven't heard of before.
In the meantime, if you have any other suggestions I'd greatly appreciate them.
EDIT:
Wow. Just tried immediately after writing that, on a separate server, and timed it. It was exactly 5 minutes. Never heard of this before, but hope it helps figure things out somehow.
Do you have QoS or UPnP on?
The router is Netgear. Hope that's not a game-killer. If so, please let me know what I can do!
1. Log in to the routers webinterface.
2. Press Advanced.
3. Press Setup, then QoS setup.
4. Above the "Reset" button there's a dropdown menu of games/services for QoS. Press it and choose "Add new application" in the bottom.
5. Name it whatever you want, i.e. "RS2 Vietnam". Set the priority to highest.
6. Set starting port to 7777 and ending port to 7779. Then press Apply.
Hi Kets,
Thanks for your reply, and sorry for the delay.
I just gave it a shot and was unfortunately disconnected again 5 minutes into the first match I entered.
Let me know whatever thoughts you have on the issue, as I'd still like to get it resolved (as it affects both this game and Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm 1).
Thanks again for your assistance and time.
Was QoS turned ON/OFF?
If it was off did you turn it on after the setup?
Have you ever been able to play for more than 5min with your actual pc+router?
In the meantime if you want to play for more than 5min you could try to skip the router and connect your ethernet to your modem if possible.
Kets,
Thank you so much for sticking with me and following up. I'd followed the directions in your previous post, but didn't realize there was an ON/OFF button for the QoS. Turning it on has enabled me to play both Rising Storm 2 and Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm, and for that I am sincerely grateful. Thank you so much.
Just for my education going forward, what is it about the Netgear modem that creates the need for the QoS intervention in the first place? Is it otherwise considered deficient for online gaming?
Also, when I was originally going through the "Add New Application" process with the QoS, I received an error message that the 7777 port was already assigned to another game (I'm forgetting which one), and that the port range would have to be altered or the other game setting deleted. I opted to delete the other game setting, as it was an older game with defunct multiplayer anyway, but I was just wondering about the relevance of the port numbers.
I also noticed that there were multiple older games and some applications listed in the different QoS priorities, and was wondering if some are added automatically when a game or program is installed to a local computer, or if there's some other way those settings are getting in there in the first place.
Thanks again so much for helping me out, following up, and solving my issue. It means a lot.
I guess Netgear's algorithms "don't like" Unreal Engine default ports (7777, 7778 and 7779 iirc) since i've seen this issue multiple times across multiple UE3 games.
I guess, again :(, that your router automatically adds applications to the list once those applications have sent packets through it but i really don't know, maybe Netgear adds common games/apps to that list by default.
Glad i could help and have fun playing!
I've been having this issue for more then a year. In that time I've gotten a new pc and had to replace my router. The issue has persisted from those devices.
I don't know how to log into my routers interface.
Any help is appreciated.
That should take you to the web interface and unless you have changed it, the default login is username = admin
password = password
