We were using the Cobra on Anlao Valley. Friend shot me from C and I landed in the water below.
I'm sure the skids didnt break for me, but I'll try it nonetheless

If the engine is destroyed then you're helicopter will lose all power and you will be required to perform an autorotate in order to land. Autorotation is a helicopters ability to maintain flight despite a total loss of engine power due to air passing upwards through the main rotor and causing it to spin (like blowing on a fan). The effectiveness of this depends on how high you are with higher been better. Essentially the higher you are the further you'll be able to fly with autorotation although for transports I'd recommend landing at the first opportunity rather than attempting to RBT only to crash with an entire squad outside of the combat zone. The step by step guide for autorotation is as follows:
1. Lower the collective as much as you can to preserve the rotors RPM
2. Level out - tilting to far forward will not allow enough air through and your rotor will not spin
3. Select and landing (crash) zone
4. As you are coming into land, slowly increase the collective - you want to aim to reach max collective just before you hit the ground.
So basically, you need your engine to be completely shot out (red) to the point where it is no longer producing any power at all, and then use autorotation to land without turning into a fiery fireball. As far as I know, only RPGs, SAM missiles and concentrated DShK fire can completely disable the engine.
Isn't small arms fire just as capable, though it'll be harder?
RPD worked, but it took a while.
It's pretty much what he said. To get the achievement, you just have to walk away from the landing after the engines have died on you from a certain height. You can even land out of bounds and still get the achievment. Although I suggest waiting until a few seconds before you touch to quickly raise the collective to hover just above the ground for a second or two.
That's what we were doing unfortunately
