Game takes a very long time to start
Hi,

I've notices that the game takes an unnecessary long time to start.

Is mostly takes between 4-5 minutes until something is happening.

I noticed this also on RS and Killing floor. My computer is up to date and other games won't take longer than a few seconds to boot.

Someone else has this problem? Am I missing something?

Cheers

Evo

That's actually three words, or an acronym.

And I disagree, this should work fine on an HDD, the game isn't actually doing anything on startup, it's just stalling.
Defrag your Harddrive.

It *should* work on an HDD, but it doesn't. Just accept it and install it on an SSD, it's a night and day difference for Rising Storm 2 and Killing Floor 2.
Or just buy a BLACK WD 7200 RPM HDD

These are for KF2, but it's the same for most UE3 games.
Even on SSD it takes a minute or so, when you launch the game for the first time. 2nd and 3rd launches are a lot faster, because the game has everything stored in cache.

Edit: I've just checked the numbers. The game only loads up to 4 GB for me (Read total is 3808 MB).
As for RAM, it jumps from 5.7GB to 8.8GB.
Still, slow HDD and low bandwith RAM could explain extreme loading times in some cases.

The game loads 2+ GBs worth of models, textures, animations, 2D graphics, sounds, and music, plus connects to a server and downloads a bunch more data, plus loads the whole core game engine into memory on start up.

You can see (and hear) this right there on the main menu.

Well there is nothing we can do except going for an SSD, also devs could try to reduce it a little but it seems to be related to ue3 and it's not that bad. And there are more important things to imprive in my opinion like server/client optimisation.
I mean I usually play for 1,5 hours at least so having to wait 2 min is ok.
