most commanders tend to use the fixed radios which is fine except if you re a north vietnamese commander that at one giving point could need to ambush in an objective
Yes and yes.
Some won't even stop when you are right next to them using them. The other day I had a guy that would move a few feet every time I got close enough to use so the radio would stop working. But following the radio could work if they stop when they need to and know where to go.
No you don't but you are less effective as a TL without your radio for a number of reason.
Furthermore some radios are in worse locations than others (eg defending A&B on A Sau) so there might be a need for a radio on one cap but then not the next
The other thing is that if you're radioman with the commander then you need to act as a sort of bodyguard as he will likely just have his head in the map so its up to the radioman to be heads up and cover him
