Thoughts and opinions on the “new” maps coming to RS2
What are your thoughts and opinions with the 3 new maps coming to RS2 which include...

• Saigon- Final stand of the ARVN where they defend the US Embassy, Presidential Palace and other areas against the unstoppable PAVN advance. this map was released by a map maker a while ago as a custom map.

• DMZ- reimagined map of the RO2 map Mamayev. This map takes place north of Hue near the DMZ where the landscape has been blasted by artillery and bombs.

• Apache Snow- reimagined map of the RO2 map Winterwald. Taking place in the A Sau Valley (Near Hill 937), the ARVN will be attacking a Hill heavily defended by PAVN.

I think it’s great we are getting more maps for the game, especially for campaign.

saigon is black april and i really liked black april so i know i'll like saigon

i didn't play much ro2 so i can't say much about the other two then ig we're remaking rs1/ro2 now, ok then

They say that they're going to refine Black April/Saigon a little bit before launching it, which is great. The tiny capzone in the park was always just an un-fun nade fest, hope they fix that specifically.

Winterwald should be good, hope they keep the atmosphere and progression as the fog gives way to open fields. That's the defining, interesting part of the map. I'd also like to see something a bit like Alligator Creek from RS1 too, that had a good progression in lighting from dawn to day.

Not looking forward to Mamayev. Uninteresting map design, not suitable for the setting. When someone thinks Vietnam War, I doubt they imagine layers and layers of static trench defences and concrete bunkers across a rolling wasteland. Whatever.

I guess redoing old maps is easier than thinking up new designs.

Saigon (Black April) is a good map, can't say for those incoming RO2 maps, but to be honest previous RS1 maps Mekong and... (i can't even remember the name of the second one) weren't that good, cuz they are way too steamrolly

Personally, I think it'd be interesting to see a rather untouched setting of the war since it's based in the DMZ, where artillery rounds were being fired daily. It'd be a nice change in setting than the usuall jungle maps we've been getting.

The remastered maps work and flow far better with 40 players.

There was no combat in the actual city of Saigon in 1975 (especially not at the embassy), the PAVN entered the city unopposed as the ARVN had surrendered, abandoned their weapons & uniforms and fled.

Combat was prohibited inside the DMZ and American units rarely entered the area, only observed it.

This game is going further and further down the path of cartoony fiction with each update.

Fighting in a demilitarized zone. Alright.

I know it's just a game.

But we still don't have a single map that is pure jungle... which was the whole reason I got excited for this game in the first place.

And you guys are just remaking maps I've already played to death..... yet you still havent made bridges? What the hell is going on.

Oh, and you also basterdized the battle of long tan. Don't get me started on how that map should have been designed, and how the represtation you went for does not reflect the battle in any way. Didn't even reduce the cooldown for the arty, even though that battle was won with arty. I guess it would have been too boring... to try and push through constant artillery with 500 tickets. I don't think that sounds boring.

Reminds me of hamburger hill, during korean War, so it will maybe be the best PTSD map we will have.

I hope they'll make a bridge of druzthing remake so we can set up a campain with this map only and play with russian friends :)

I like the "remastered" maps idea in the sense that they are pretty polished and proven in terms of gameplay, but i dont know how will Mamayev play out with the increased firepower

Black April improved? I'm sold. It could be more fitting than freaking Quang Tri TE or Hue City SU for Saigon. May not be realistic for 75, but there was some disturbance here in 68 after all

The DMZ was thick jungle and small roads, The US sent some battalions up through the roads only a handful of times and found out the hard way that the VC would just ambush them and they'd have to go back the way they came and be ambushed again.

The DMZ area was both thick jungle, some untouched, some blasted to hell, some of it was massive mountains and other parts were thick grassy plains and rice paddies. Really all depends on where they were at. The DMZ was a big area. Con thien was blasted by artillery. Northwest Quang tri like mutters ridge was thick jungle and mountains.

This game isn't a "historical simulator" and shouldn't be treated as such. If the devs just focused on making every aspect of the game based solely on what happened during the war it wouldn't be that fun as a video game. That said, I think the devs have done a pretty good job thus far in keeping the game very historical, but making changes that promote gameplay.

When anyone say that something new is coming, all I'm thinking about is what old will get broken. It's like a tradition by now. We already had ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of custom maps, including deep jungle, until they messed things up.
