The traditional military shooter is just not as popular as it used to be.
Ever since GAM started happening and no content/bugfixes happened alongside it, I knew something was up. I could tell their devs weren't doing anything anymore because they stated that the GAM team was made out of work time, and we still weren't getting anything from the supposed development happening at that time.
2018 - AMG starts working on 83.
March 2019 - 83 is announced.
April 2019 - The last major patch AMG worked on for RS2 drops.
September 2019 - AMG is acquired by Toadman interactive.
AMGs acquisition is rather irrelevant here since it happened way after they "left". Just the nail in the coffin so to speak. AMG was never directly owned by Tripwire. The Rising storm IP is.
Tripwire interactive actively develops the killing floor series. However recently Killing Floor 2 has been handed off to the team who made World War Z. Tripwire also publishes games such as Espire 1, Road Redemption and Chivalry 2. Not to mention as we all know they take an active role in developing Maneater.
Tripwire interactive are trying to hammer out a couple of major bugs in RS2. They are also assisting the imminent release of the Talvisota mod for RS2.
As for "just change engine" that really involves making an entirely new game. The predicted price tag of such is around $10 million in developmental costs for another RO style game from the ground up.
