yes you can, recon very easiy with DSHK or RPG.
you can an achievement for shooting down a support(not recon) plane, such as AD-1H, F-4, AC-47 with an rpg. however these are all hard, AD-1H easiest to shoot down of those, but still very very hard.

Even a pistol will damage the AC-47 spooky. Probably take close to 10,000 bullets but the point is anything can damage anything.

I've even seen artillery shoot down an F4 phantom.

F-4 Phantom and A-1 are hard since they fly super fast, but I can easily shoot down the Spooky with the DShK. Dial your sights to 500m and shoot ahead of it, first it'll start smoking, then it'll catch on fire, then it'll be shot down. You can go entire matches without needing AA if you have a good DShK gunner.

yup recon is super easy to kill, are you sure that the RPG is like that? I shot one down 2 days ago.

I'm guessing it might be due to the server-side hit-detection that the RPG uses. I've definitely got a client-side hit with the RPG without the recon even starting to smoke - not sure if it's an actual bug, or just a netcode issue.

Oh yeah, for sure. RPG's and rockets, missiles have always been a very odd thing to use in games. Even back to battlefield 2, you'd have to place a ridiculous lead on your targets, it'd look as if the missile flew by with the SRAW and then you'd gain a hit. Still happens today in games like BF4 and this game sometimes.(albeit less than the other two titles i mentioned)

My friend has run into the problem you mentioned - I don't shoot planes with RPGs very often but I bet it's definitely an issue in this game, probably the worst in terms of hitreg(i've never ran into contentional-weapon hitreg, aside from XM21 but I think those rounds are just slow as ****)

There are 2 achievements for hitting a F-4 and a Skyraider.

I managed to have the F-4 with a lucky shot and I'm struggling a lot to get the Skyraider.
It is as fast as the F-4 and these achievements are almost impossible to get.
