There are, in my opinion, definitely a lot of people doing this. Lost track of how often I got shot while completely prone in grass or crouched almost inside a bush. Wish they'd just make it so that foliage remains the same across all settings.

Honestly I don't think i've had many times where I thought another player was using lower settings to cheat, maybe it's because I play on US servers, or just because i'm generally always higher on the scoreboard, the point being just because other people are doing it doesn't mean you should lower yourself to their level. That kind of thinking is what ruins a lot of games, especially for us players that like to play legitimately.

One of the easier ways to be able to spot people better, at least at a distance is by removing the Anti-Aliasing, because it makes everything far away look like a blur. I turn off AA because it looks gross and because I have a strong PC and run the game on a 1440p monitor, so I don't need AA as much. It's also a perk to be able to see people at 200+ Meters and actually seeing that they're an enemy, while using a weapon that doesn't have a scope. I personally don't consider this being cheap, I don't know what others opinions are, but this one is on the Developers for using terrible AA on their game.

Justifying lowering the settings in an attempt to give them an advantage over everyone else. By giving it a nice name. Who are you trying to convince by doing that? I personally think you're trying to convince yourself that you're doing nothing underhanded.

In reality in a real competitive environment everybody has "The same" settings as everyone else. Excluding those who try and go lower. You can make a little mod to kick those with an ini file it doesn't like.

I think if you asked most players about lowering settings to get an advantage they wouldn't think much of the players doing it. Some would have some rather choice words and every one of them would also be saying, "git gud".

You aint giving yourself an unfair advantage though so I do not see the problem. Anyone can do it. If you aint dropping your settings you are the one putting yourself at a disadvantage.

I guess the AA thing might be a borderline case, but seeing people at mid to long ranges in this game is unrealistically difficult due to the blur effect their AA uses, so...

You were able to turn on MSAA through the game files but they broke that with the most recent patch, Real shame.

Ya which I can understand completely, I like to use it because to me the game looks better without the AA, it only gives you an advantage at range though, and that's usually only at ranges of like 200+ Meters, which isn't too common. Plus it is fun countersniping with an m16 or AK. ;P

Ya we're not allowed to have nice AA in RS:2 Vietnam, or at least niceish AA. :(

As with all pvp fps games your gonna want to run the game at the lowest setting. These games are always full of HDR, bloom, lens flairs, motion blur and other worthless things. So much screen clutter, i don't care if the game looks nice i want to see what i am doing. The foliage thing is just a nice bonus. In any pvp fps i always lower the graphics even if i can run the game fine. But i draw the line at .ini tweaks for an advantage, i think thats a little to much for me. But there is nothing wrong with using the ingame graphic settings to turn off all the garbage screen clutter.

Ultra graphics are for single player games.

Then play the game maxed out its your choice dude.

I tried maxing it out and noticed how many other people are clearly using low foilage so I dont plan on turning it back up. Its insane everyone is doing it.

They must get really mad as I top them on the scoreboard, running the game on Ultra with foliage maxed out on a potato.

Lies! You can't be running the game on ultra on a potato, this game is unoptimized! /end sarcasm

Some people evidently feel they need a "competitive" edge, but I also prefer to make full use of the money I invested in hardware. Game plays quite nicely and looks good with maxed out settings.

Edit: If it's not already possible to force parameters on a server in UE3, it would be nice if there was a server side setting that allowed admins to establish minimum graphics settings required to play on a server.

Maybe that could be done as a community mod, if it can't be done OOTB with server scripts?

Of course, 700hrs of low foilage I know the spots you can hide and not hide from players doing the same.

You getting hella salty for a mod lol. Turn you foilage to low or stop crying and trying to make out people doing it are lesser than yourself.
