M40 vs M21
Does the M40 bolt action have any redeeming factors over the semi automatic M21?

It's more powerful, more accurate at long range and is a lighter weapon. It's also what the USMC was issued.

They should have the exact same power, they shoot the same round.

M40 has a longer barrel, which would make a faster/harder impact.

A difference of 2 inches is going to be virtaully negligible at ranges of 300 meters and closer. Hell, even 300 meter shots are rare in this game barring certain maps(usually custom).
Even the difference in terms of muzzle energy between an AK and an SKS is going to be more dramatic, and the difference between those is not that significant.

Also, it's a video game! The bolt action is going to do more damge than the semi auto. :steamhappy:

It's a video game that's trying to be authentic. The bolt actions in RO2 did not do more damage than the semi-auto rifles chambered in the same round.

They pretty much don't do different damages if you look at the stats in the code. It's very slight. It's just enough to get it one higher on the power scale. Even though it's barely different.
Imo using a BA just forces the user to be more accurate and take less risky/chance shots.

They both should have similar stats. Other than weight and rate of fire.

I find the xm21/SVD more fun and the better choice.

I like using the BA also feels more like hunting.

M40 was used by the USMC.
M21 was used by US army.
Strange tho there is a few pics of USMC lads using the m21 and one with Hathcock.

Most pictures are usually guys just posing for the camera on bases. I suspect that was when they just played around with different weapons regardless if it was standard issue for their branch or not.

This, and I'm sure some US Marines rigged their own scopes onto standard M14's at some point. Not the official XM21 variant, but damn close.
There is a nice few of hatchcock with a suppressed m21 clearly looks to be in action and a few with a night scope.

Strange they named the m25 sniper system after him.

Should have been adelbert waldron.
