what does folding the stock do?
so i tried looking this up, and from what ive read, no one can seem to decide what i actually does. some people day it gives you better fov, others say it gives you quicker ads, or it helps you lean around corners better, some people say it makes you go prone and get up faster. so which is it, what does it actually do?

It makes you have more mobility and you can get closer to walls without you withdrawing it so to speak. It also puts your iron sights off a little, and increases recoil. Whatever all that other stuff is... I don't know, I've never heard of them and half of that doesn't even vaguely make sense.

I've read a spreadsheet of stats that it's suppose to reduce the overall length of the weapon, but it doesn't seem to work in practice. ADS may be a little faster, but I don't know if it's all in my head after testing it out. The recoil also is exaggerated.

I've never heard the comments on leaning more, stand up from prone faster, and better fov and don't think these are anywhere close to being true. The main reason I use it is to not have the iron sights block too much of your view such as the case with the M3A1.

Of course folding a stock reduces overall weapon length; it's the entire point of doing so. It does work in practice in RS2. Say you're in a tunnel, a trench system, a destroyed building, whatever. A longer weapon is harder to maneuver, slower to bring on target, more awkward to aim with around corners and over ledges.

If you're only going to be fighting enemy within spitting distance, folding the stock will make it easier for you to get your gun on target first. Basically turns an assault rifle into an SMG, and a SMG into a machine pistol. When accuracy doesn't matter, the smaller weapon might be able to fire first. What you lose is the majority of your ability to brace and stabilize, since you obviously can't shoulder a stock if it's collapsed.

When I'm going to be working in tunnel systems or inside buildings, I tend to fold up that stock.

It also doesn't obscure your vision as much compared to when aiming down the iron sights.

You can see a huge difference when you ADS with a folded stock. Your weapon is held much lower on-screen, and it definitely aims more quickly.

The folding stock is a killer on Skirmish and close combat
