US Shotgun - Hard to hit - Tips?
Does anyone have any tips on the US Ithaca shotgun? I can't seem to hit prone enemies or enemies crouched down behind cover (But I can still see their head). The Vietnamese shotgun is great and I've had no problems with it.
I'll take a shot at someone with their head poked out at 30m and I can't hit them at all. I've tried with the bead sight right on the head and right above the head. Sometimes firing at someone standing still in the open is impossible as well. I'll take a few shots, watching the dust fly up around them, and they'll just turn and kill me.
This is also a problem in close range - I've had to take multiple body shots at someone in close range to kill them sometimes. Is there something wrong with the US shotgun? Is it me? I know it has a tight spread, but even against enemies standing still the shotgun's sight doesn't seem to be accurate.
What model or shot have people found to be most effective? I've been seeming to have more success with the number 4 buckshot. The pistol seems to be more effective so far. Very disheartening.

Change ammo type to more spread? Remov the bucket, but it's still not as good as VC/NVA's double barrel, that gun is a BEAST of a canon! Killing people on 80m+ haha

I've had great success with the trench gun Ithaca variant. It has a long barrel, fairly tight choke and can reach out and drop people at relatively long range if necessary.

Since RS2 models every pellet individually, there are no guarantees you will get a killshot, especially if someone is moving, prone or in cover. Sometimes I straight up drop people as fast as I can chamber shells, sometimes it takes me several shots to neutralize an enemy. Remember that even if your shots don't seem to be connecting, they may be causing minor or major wounds.

I use 00 buck for more open areas; it will kill much further than smaller pellets. 00 also penetrates quite a lot of cover.

#4 buck is my go-to for the closest and most congested areas; bunker systems, trenchlines, urban fighting, etc. A #4 shell has more pellets than a comparable 00 shell, but they're smaller and won't cause fatal wounds as far out as 00.

I'll try out the #4 with the trench gun some more when I get on next, I play mostly Cu Chi, Hue City, and Hill 937. Where have you been lining up your bead sight, exactly? Have you been aiming a bit higher, lower? Especially against an enemy through a bunker window.
Thank you for feedback!

On Cu Chi and Hill, I would consider using 00, since it'll penetrate cover better. Hue is definitely prime ground for #4, especially if you fight in the sewers and around objective D.

I aim right for center mass. Haven't had any trouble with the shotgun sights myself; it's not exactly a precise weapon. In a situation dealing with a bunker window, I might suppress with shotgun fire and follow it up with a grenade, just to be sure.
No. 4 Buckshot and the Stakeout. And even with the shotgun aiming for the head is pretty usefull.

My favorite thing to do as the Spotter is to take the enemy by surprise and get up close and be deadly with my trusty M37. Think of the shotgun as a pistol, but with a lot more 'Bang'. I could engage a target at around 50m with my buckshot round. But that may take more than one shot to kill. You may either wound him or you can at least stagger him to prevent him from getting away. Remember to try to lead the buckshot round when the target is moving. It not a source video game where it rely on hit detection. But this game offer weapon ballistic.

I mannaged to sneak up on the VC and mannaged to frag at least 13 players up close in An Lao Valley on Carlie. It was quite fun to use it as my broomstick.

One thing i have learned from the shotguns, is that they for some reason shoot lower than the sight. So for longer distances than 15 meters aim a bit higher than the target.

I headshoted somene at +50 meters so is not hard, you just need practice.

I will create a proper fps guide for this game soon to help people "git gud" like I see some people write.

I'd say thats just one of the disadvantages of such a weopon. As someone has mention the best soulutuin is more pellets, a you can't control the exact trajectory of any given pellet.

I use all three, kinda depending on where I intend to fight. Just like I use all three Ak's, and pretty much everything except the stock french variation of the NVA submachine gun.

Also just practice how to work around that situation if you get caught in it. Flanking, reatreting and pulling them in an ambush. I f you have a mic and a fried, cover fire actually compensates, as it forces an enemy to either evade, or return fire, both of which takes his focus off you. You just need to be quick, as some can recove rather fast.

IMO, try out the stakeout, thing's a monster with pretty light weight. You can run into a room and shell two-three charlies before they can turn around. Everytime I play pointman I grab the stakeout and it has yet to fail me.

I'm playing again with it now and it's not doing anything at all. Up close, at 20m, nothing. I can aim for dead mass or above all day and I apparently can't hit ♥♥♥♥. This is very frustrating. Once again, shooting an enemy close range, standing still, sight ON the target doesn't register and he turns around and kills me. What gives?

What's your ping to that particular server? Is your internet connection stable? I know that some have experienced symptoms like this from having an especially high ping.

Or it could just be bad luck with that particular engagement. Or it could be the hitreg bug that appears from time to time, but that's also easily confused with ping/lag issues, pellets merely wounding an enemy and a bunch of other possible situations.

Well, upon playing more I've begun to get the hang of it. The last server I was on was very laggy for me, more than usual. I've been aiming even higher and doing good. Thanks!

I prefer the duckbill. It has a wide narrow pattern. Does take some practice though
