The A2(or A4) are the variants you often see in modern military games if the M16 being used has 3 round burst. The A1 and A3 have full auto.
This is a big gripe I have about the game in its current state, because it seems like a disconnect from reality for the sake of balancing the weapon out with the M-16. Thinking of it objectively, if the M-14 was fully-automatic, it would fire approximately 700-750 rounds per minute cyclic. That's very nearly the automatic fire rate of the M-16! The M-14 also has 20 rounds to a magazine instead of 18. The M-14 has very good accuracy as well, and increased damage over the M-16. If the M-14 was fully automatic in-game, the only disadvantage in using the M-14 over the M-16 would be more sluggish handling, and a significant increase in recoil. If they made the M-14 absolutely hellish and damn near useless to fire in full auto (as it should be), it might keep some players away... but I bet there would still be more players using the M-14 than the M-16.
All that being said... I still want the option for it to be fully automatic in game. If I want my first shot to land on target and the rest fly skyward and land in Cambodia... if the game strives for realism in weapon design then I should have that option available :-)
(you can get this source for free online btw)
The game's maps already distinguish between USMC and US Army - I wouldn't mind an extra class for automatic rifleman or (if no new class can be rolled out), the pointman getting a fully automatic version of the M14.
Like every source that talks about M14s in Vietnam says they were restricted to semi auto only lol.
Every source I have had (mostly Vets) have said that the M14 was "horrible" in full-auto and they chose not to use it... not that it was a function that was completely disabled. Forgive me for taking veterans at their word. I had not seen the Lee Emerson text until today and I am still perusing it. Were there any other sources you wouldn't mind listing?
Yeah we aren't talking 1964. We're talking 1969.
An M14 on full-auto is very hard to control.
AVT-40 on full-auto is even harder to control, its even is "not recommended" by developers of gun to use it in this mode. You can use it only if the squad has total lack of auto-firepower. But this gun still in the game, and damn it - it's hell of fun.
