i like it how it is now(automatic),it is more natural to me,because i can move in iron sights without holding down a key.
but i agree there should be option to let the player choose what kind of zoom he wants:
A.) "automatic" iron sight zoom(you zoom in when you go to iron sights - like in the current beta)
or
B.) "manual" iron sight zoom (in iron sight there is NO zoom until you hit "shift" ,only then you zoom in.)
Anyway yeah, agree. Although RO2 players might want both. Slight zoom when you ADS and then bigger zoom if your chose to by holding your breath.
I just don't like the zoom because it disturbs my sight picture in short and medium range and tries to commit me to some accurate shooting. While sometimes you just want to ads and shoot.
It's been a while but I don't think RO Ostfront had any zoom at least until you held your breath, Arma follows the same kind of mechanic which I prefer. Insurgency and DOI are like RO2 but you can disable the initial zoom while aiming down sight using a simple console command.
I know ADS + Zoom has been discussed a lot but I agree here. The amount of zoom is fine by me, it's just how the zoom is implemented. I don't feel shouldering your weapon should automatically zoom you in but I guess that's a player preference thing.
For me, it's a gameplay/visual feedback thing. When you hit your focus/control breath button, getting a little bit of zoom (like you get right now automatically) gives a clear indication to the player that they're "focusing" in on a target and, at the same time, it dulls their peripheral vision, which is an adequate tradeoff.
Agreed. And like OP said, having the automatic zoom in a close quarters scenario is annoying and limits your peripheral view when it's most vital.
As for RO:Ostf, it actually does have a slight zoom when you ADS.
