Best modern SINGLE PLAYER game like this ??
Sorry dont want to offend anyone. I like the game. I just dont get into it.

So yeah, below is an extended version why I cannot stick with this game. Maybe I should just get Arma 3 but the fantasy setting puts me off. Just thought maybe you can recommend me the best recent fps that are comparable, and have a realistic setting (like WW2 or Vietnam).

I am not very good at this kind of fps. But not particularly bad either. I can hit enemies but dont enjoy split second reflexes. And I want to have the feeling I am doing something meaningful.

Some years ago I played a lot of Vietcong and while it was brutal, it felt better, especially when playing coop / singleplayer.

No fast forward to 2017, in RS2 tried to move slowly (like in the river map in Vietcong) and learn the game step by step. The result was I never got much into the flow of the game, with constantly changing objectives on the other end of the map, "We are taxing Charly" "Delty is under attack" "We have lost alpha" etc and the cryptic "Return to the Combat Area" (when I had just infiltrated the enemy and thought I could score some sneaky kills ..)

Then I though I should stick with my team leader and take objectives. I quickly found the gameplay now basically boiled down to 2-3 guys running in tunnels, throwing grenades left and right, ordering artillery strikes and so on, and I could never make out the enemy from my own soldiers. Since I did not want to kill a teammates all I could do was stick behind the squadleader and basically fire no shots. If I moved away from the safety of my squad there would be an comparable enemy squad waiting for me behind the corner, killing me the instant I spotted them.

So yeah, I realized those guys have learned by heart so they dont need much cues from the graphics. I can live with that but I dont intend to learn every square meter of a map and make 2,000 kills before I have some sort of rewarding experience.

ARMA 3 is your best bet. Granted, it is huge and, though it has become more user friendly, has so many possibilities and options it can seem overwhelming.

There is none. ArmA with Nam mods is best bet. Maybe the next CoD will be set in Nam, LOL.

I think I saw the next COD is going back to WWII.

I was just about to mention Vietcong, but I see you already played it so...

Yeah, nothing else noteworthy. Isn't it sad how few good SP Vietnam games there are? Meanwhile we have about a million WW2 ones, with more on the horizon.

As others have said, Arma 3 is probably the best bet for single player...with a TON of community created content, from maps to weapons, vehicles and even AI improvements. There are even 3rd party programs to control your AI by voice commands.

Other than that, about the only other games I'll play SP with bots is BF2 (another one with a ton of mods for SP) or Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

IMO, it doesn't matter which large multiplayer game you take. They're all a little confusing when you start out because you don't know the maps, objectives, overall pace, etc.

The RS/RO series is good for people without fast-twitch reactions. You can get way, way more kills and points by learning maps, positioning, and flanking. You'll lose out in close quarters a lot of the time, but that's not really the bulk of the game. There are also roles where you don't need to be shooting constantly and some where you rarely shoot at all.

ArmA 3 is "near future warfare", with vehicles and guns that aren't really used widely anywhere for the most part.

Hell, they originally were going to make it pure sci-fi but drifted away from it.
