Mixed with the add-ons included in the 2.4.1 mod, Atmosfear 3 changes the weather and lighting and mutant graphics, along with some other stuff, and along with AbsoluteNature 3 which changes the style of grass and trees, can make for a very pretty and immersive CoP ontop of the sexy new weapon skins and sounds added by AO.
Mix in MSO and you get some good aLife variety, lots of random patrols, firefights between bandits and Stalkers, etc. I would recommend the whole package if you decide to go with AO. Other than these changes though, it's much more like the vanilla game and, while on Master it can sometimes be challenging, it's not nearly as hard as Misery.
Misery isn't quite as pretty when matched up to AO with all the bells and whistles in Direct X11, but it definitely adds more depth and difficulty. Misery makes you earn everything and use everything to stay alive, for the most part. It adds a ton of items, allows you to repair weapons with kits and parts (which you need to do often, since paying for repairs is much more expensive), drugs have more varied effects are much more vital (along with resist gear like the SEVA), it overhauls pretty much everything. I sometimes enjoy the difficulty scale, but essentially even if you are constanty super cautious, always sneaking and taking your time, you're still gonna get locked onto and bull**** sniped or have a grenade lobbed right inbetween your feet at times. It just happens. Mutants are also a little bit too beefy for my liking but eh, overall, it's a damn fine and challenging mod. The class dynamic of it also adds to replay value of it.
That all being said, lasty I'm pretty sure that AO and Misery are not compatitble, since Misery alters and adds its own weapons data, stats, etc. Hope this was helpful.
Oh, this really helps! I guess I'll go with Misery and see how it feels. If not, I'll just go for the AO & MSO.
Quick, perhaps stupid reference but does Misery make the game more like Metro? Because it sure sounds like it.
Or do you want moar gunz?
I tell you. I was reading the descriptions on the items for a dam long time. Until I realized I was dying of hunger.
Keep your ears and eyes open to danger as you move around. You WILL often hear bloodsuckers or become aware of their activity if you are careful. Run for an elevated position the second you think they've spotted you. (They tend to spawn in particular areas so take note of where you were if they kill you and you can largely avoid them until you're ready to deal with them).
If you receive gunfire, find cover fast. Always fight with cover if at all possible and you will be able to fight off any squad of attackers. Beware of flanking manoeuvres and try not to get pinned in one place. Enemies will approach your last known position so switching cover is useful. Retreat is acceptable until you can respond competently.
At the very beginning you will be relying on your fellow S.T.A.L.K.E.R.S. to do a lot of the work for you. Just keep up with a squad and loot everything they take down. Loot the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.S. too, when they get taken out. You will in fairly short order be able to save enough to buy some decent armor and buy or repair some decent weapons.
First order of business with your rubles: get hold of a stove to cook mutant meat. It will save you a ton of money. One can be found in a stash if you range far and get lucky but more than likely you will want to buy one before that happens! There are a lot of good stashes around (no spoilers here) which will also keep you going until you really get on your feet.
And you are simply going to have to be patient and wait until you're ready to do certain missions or they will be too difficult or even impossible without adequate gear, like a headlight, grenades, a scoped weapon, a shotgun, etc.
Enjoy Zaton. It is where you start off and it is one of the most exciting and beautiful maps you will ever experience in gaming. Call of Pripyat is brilliant: Misery makes it truly great.
I just want a post-apocalyptic shooter with realistic action and good graphics. So if I'm to go AO and MSO, what else should I install?
A mod called "the armored zone" fixes that.
I asked him if its possible to change any of that. I'll let you know if it is possible to get english back. At least I was able to change it to give me a detector at start.
