Is there really a point to the Wilderness Farm?
Recently I've been testing out the different farm types, and...I really can't see too much of a point with the Wilderness farm. Especially considering at some point later on, you can do a thing, that lets monsters spawn on ANY farm at all. And considering the monsters that do spawn on your farm seem to be directly tied to your progress in the mines or skull caverns, (At least, I think? It could be tied to combat level...Not sure) by the time you likely have monsters spawning on your farm that drop anything actually worthwhile, you'd likely be at the point you could enable monster spawns on your farm anyway. Or is there something I am missing and the wilderness has different spawns late game?

No, its awful
I started out with it at first and its just a handicapped regular farm with monsters that keep annoying you whenever you try to do some farmwork in the evening/night, the drops are worthless and some monsters even scale in difficulty with you

Yeah, I thought as much. I don't regret allowing monsters to spawn on my regular farm at night. Those things can be incredibly useful. I've been getting purple slimes and serpents and stuff like that. Getting iridium bars, void essences and ores just off killing stuff on my own farm is really awesome. I even managed to get a Prismatic Shard from one of the serpents once... Really amazing if I do say so.

The Wilderness farm has a unique monster spawn that can drop things like Diamonds once you max your combat level. It's good for getting an early supply of Bat Wings, and the layout has the (Secondmost I belive) most farming space available for use. Most people I've talked to about the layout have mentioned that they usually run out of energy and go to bed long before the monsters start spawning, and since you can get non-unique monster spawns on any farm anyways, people prefer the Standard or Forest layouts to Wilderness.

I personally like the Wilderness farm, just because it's nonrestrictive, a bit more challenging, and allows me to start working towards lightning rods and slime stockpiles long before I'd see Bats in the Mines. I also like the general look of the layout as well.

Like any of the layouts it just gives you about a season or two headstart on what you'd normally have access to anyways, with a different aesthetic.

Unique monster spawn huh? What is it? I'm curious to know. Because to my knowledge the 'Wilderness Golem' can spawn on any map if you enable monster spawns at the shrine of night terrors.

all new farms suck. Just choose vanilla. You will be able to make monsters spawn on endgame anyway, if you wish

Except they are all considered 'vanilla' since they're in the base game and not a mod.

But I'm going to assume you mean the "Standard" farm? Each farm layout has their advantages and disadvantages, but that's your opinion to say that they 'all suck' lol

Personally I haven't tried the wilderness farm, but if it appeals to those for the challenge it brings, then they should go for it.

i chose wilderness on my 1st run bc i thought "the icon! it has bats! it speaks to my soul!" but honestly all the farm does is annoy you when you try to farm at night esp during early game

Completely off topic, but still sorta on topic... Am I the only one that finds it odd you can't grow cocoa or vanilla beans? Considering how widely they are used in sweets in the real world it's odd you can't grow either of them, especially when they have ice cream.

I blame the vanilla dispute for that line of thought.

...It looks nice.
I mean, in the end, that's all that matters.

Well, in the real life, cocoa and vanilla thrive in tropical/humid/equator-type climates--Which Stardew Valley doesn't really reflect?

Vanilla in games refers to an unmodified, base-game experience, and has for a while, as far as I'm aware.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanilla_software
"In PC games, the term "vanilla" is often used to describe the original version of a game, which has not been modified with third-party addons, developer updates, downloadable content (DLC) or patches. It can also refer to the original game engine when source ports or expansion packs are available."

Hmm you have a point but... aren't orange trees basically the same? If memory serves we can also grow cranberries which generally require what is practically a shallow pond/bog type thing. Which we definitely don't have in the game as an option for growing things.

personally, i find it odd that theres pickles and no cucumbers, even though the sprite art for the pickles clearly show cucumbers in the jar.

Yeah, not hard when you link to a page about vanilla SOFTWARE. Note the keyword 'software'. From a link on that same page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plain_vanilla

Plain vanilla is an adjective describing the simplest version of something, without any optional extras, basic or ordinary. In analogy with the common ice cream flavour vanilla, which became widely and cheaply available with the development of artificial vanillin flavour. Certain financial instruments, such as put options or call options, are often described as plain vanilla options. The opposite of plain vanilla options are exotic options.

Vanilla is just slang for plain or basic. Nothing more.
Just because you aren't aware of a term doesn't mean it doesn't exist by definitions.. yes "vanilla" is mostly related to food-like items but in the gaming world, it means an entirely different thing. You can easily get the same results with "Vanilla game" on google for what they linked to "vanilla software"

You telling another user that referring to the standard map in Stardew Valley as 'vanilla' is incorrect only serves to make you look silly, as it shows you don't quite grasp how the word is used, but hey, far be it from me to stop you. Not my issue :)
Shrugs. I know what it means as I grew up around the term, but I'm not gonna bother argue about it. Have a nice night.
