Question concerning playing offline
I have spotty internet and have questions concerning save files in stardew valley.

1) does it automatically save to the cloud every save or just when i quit the game?
2) If I play online but suddenly lose connection, would my saved file and progress still be retained?
3) If I play offline, does my offline game overwrite my saved file on the cloud or does my saved file overwrite my offline saved file?
4) can I turn the cloud saving off? if so how? (i tried looking for it but can't find it)

I'm not sure about 1 (though I imagine it's only when you quit), but for 2 if you lose connection your save will be fine. Regarding 3, Steam defaults to the newest save either on the cloud or on your machine - if it asks which to use, always choose the newest one. As for 4, you can turn cloud saving off in the properties menu from right clicking it in the library, under the updates tab.

Steam only uploads your save after the game ends or quits.

It is an offline locally stored save, steam only uploads a new copy if it can as explained above.

Steam tries to have the most recent save on the cloud but it detects a difference between local and cloud save it will ask you which one to use and will show which one is more recent.

You can disable cloud save all together if you don't want to worry about it but you should manually back up your local saves regardless of cloud saving.

If you don't game from multiple devices, disable cloud. There's little use in having it for one PC. Too often does the cloud replace a new save with an older on. In multiple games I've played, I've seen people complain about this and I've had it happen to me as wells in Borderlands 2.

Optionally, use SMAPI. It's required for other mods but has a built in save backup that places an archived set of saves in your installation folder every real life day.

To disable the Cloud, Click "Steam" in the top left corner of Steam, then "Settings". A new window will pop up. Navigate to "Cloud" on the left-hand side of the window and untick the first box labled "Enable Steam Cloud".
