Options -> Game Options -> Helpers -> Instant Automapping ... ;-)
now are you talking about in game options, or an editable .ini file? I ask because in the options its says it will reveal the entire map, I don't want the entire map, I want to create a mod that allows full time auto-mapping.
So you'll still need to find the 2 magical maps to get the full map revealed.
back to the dungeon
(after I turn that feature on)
I think it would be cheating if it revealed the entire map, but if it only maps out where you have been, then thats a standard in most games
As an aside, I wish there was a game like this that made the mapping thing a bit more realistic, like, make it so you have to just find a paper or scroll, and choose when to use it to make a map of the level you're on, and you have a limited number of papers, so you might not want to map some early levels in case you run out of paper, and can't map the harder levels later on, kinda thing. I haven't fully worked it out in my head, because the game I'm working on won't have maps like that, but I think there's something to it.
Feeling lost in their dungeons and trying to get my bearing was one of my great pleasures playing these games. Automap really breaks that.
If you're lost, you have 2 easy rules to help you :
- always follow left wall
- or always follow right wall
It'll save you in 90% of cases..! :)
The main reason to activate the permanent automap in DG is if you can't play one level within a couple of days as it might get hard to remember the layout over several days.
The other reasons are if you really have memory problem or if it's just not your thing to feel lost... :-)
^_^
Yeah, and those games are unplayable for me now. Don't make YOUR game unplayable too. Do you want people to just lump the old unplayable games AND yours into the "Never Play" pile?
Where did he say he was going to make his game "unplayable" (your definition)? The game has the option; he isn't taking it away.
it seems you missed the 1st reply to this topic :
the first map simply turns on auto-mapping, this is the feature that most people are familiar with, it keeps track of where you have walked
the 2nd map is a blueprint of the level, this reveals everything including areas you have not found or traveled yet, this helps in finding secret areas
when you click on auto-mapping in the options, it works like the first map, your map will get updated of where you have been, you will still be able to find the blueprint map that reveals everything
