I like impressions like yours in general and difficulty is more often something personal but Perfect Dark is not hard, it's a FPS for N64 with good save system as far as I remember.

Old Metroid and Castlevanias are hard, First xcom UFO Defense, they bleed pixels, I wanna be that guy.

don't forget half of the other games on the list :^)

NES castlevanias are pretty hard imo. Also Wizards & warriors 1 and 2 aren't that easy. European NES version version of Rygar was awful, due damage and health bug capping reasons... Last boss in that game version took like 40 hits while you could only take 6 (iirc) hits without dying.

Rayman? Why are you trolling me?

That game is harder than this is, at least for a casual playthrough of the game. In terms of Speedrun, Super Meat Boy probably ends up harder, but for a casual run even 106%(on this) is still easier to clear than Rayman is(which forces 100%, so 106% is the only category to compare it with)

The difficulty in this is more just learning the levels, or getting consistent if speedrunning or going for the no deaths.

But list is obviously missing a lot like

They Bleed Pixels

The entire Ys series(especially on Nightmare)

Wings of Vi

Tobari and the Night of the Curious Moon(Easy maingame, hard extra levels)

Reverse x Reverse(also easy maingame, hard Ex Levels or hard in general if trying to go for SS/GOD ranks)

Rabi-Ribi

La-Mulana (if you're not using a guide)

Most Arcade games(or ports of) in general when you're aware that continues are mainly there to practice later parts and the games are designed for not continuing(unless the game is crap and not worth playing because there are some designed to make you use them)

Rogue-likes in general

This is true. To just complete it super meat boy isn't difficult. This is because they've done so much to help you out. Respawns take half a second, levels can safely be completed in 40 seconds at most (slightly longer for entire warps) There are no surprises, what you see is what you get.

The skill ceiling on meat boy though is ridiculous. The game is out 6 years and records are still continuously been smashed, new routes and techniques being found etc.not too mention it is humanly impossible to even come close to omptimal speedrunning without a TAS

I think I did beat Contra effortlessly as a kid - some 25 years ago. lol.

I am NOT sure if I could do that nowadays. I think my response was better at that time...

Without Konami code? It gives you 50 lives. And a question: Why Konami chose that name for the saga? "Contra" means "against" or "versus" in spanish.

Also, I want to add another games:
-Defender (and its sequel).
-Sinistar
-Robotron 2084
-Punch out
-Game over (ZX spectrum)
-Shinobi saga
-Montezuma´s revenge
-Donkey Kong Country Returns (extra levels)

The original version of Montezuma's Revenge can't be finished.

Depends what you want to do with a game. I would add The King of Fighters XIII if you dared to complete all combo trials for all characters. The same goes for BlazBlue series. Well fighting games in general are hard that's why so few people play them (same thing with bullet hell games).
Is Mike Tyson´s Punch Out a fighting game or a sport game? If it´s the first one, the last combat with Mike Tyson (or the infamous Mr Dream) will be a good evidence of what you say.

Megaman X2 (with the Zero battle), Castlevania II/III/IV, Fire Emblem 7 (in Hector Hard Mode), Kid Icarus: Uprising (all chapters in the difficult 9 with only the basic weapon), Ghouls'n'Ghosts for SNES (with the good ending, which you need the Goddess Bracelet, because the regular game is actually easy, but in the second time, everything gets SO hard, just like the first one), Don't Starve as Wes, almost all Zelda games, Pocky & Rocky 1 and Castlevania SOTN (it's easy when playing with everything, but when you try the Red Rust challenge...).
That's what you're missing.
