I can see why it would be triggering to set an achievement to fail contracts. I don't like sledgehammering or cutting off components either, but I brought myself to demolish the shell of a Pz III rather than repair it or just sell it in my futile never-ending quest to dig up a Maus. Once I finally get all the achievements I do want (i.e. Mr Maus) I will use the achievement app to tick the failure achievements.
You have to be careful, though because programs like that are forbidden by Valves terms of service and using them could get your account banned.
