Risen vs. Risen 2

Hello Community,
on GMG is a sale for Risen and Risen dark waters, and i only want to buy/play one of them...
can somebody give me a hint, which one is the better part?
(i was really into gothic 1+2 , graphics doesnt matter i just want the one with the better story/ atmosphere)

Risen is one of the best games I've ever played (yeah I'm a Gothic fan), don't know anything about the 2nd one but I would get Risen if I were you.

buy risen 2 i played both, but both are good. thats youre thing. watch some videos at yt then you see which you like better

Personally, I thought that Risen 2 was better. Issues with the combat, but Risen 2, in my opinion, boasted better writing and a far more interesting and better realized world.
One of my personal favorites and, let's be honest, you are going to have a hard time finding another quality pirate rpg. I say go for Risen 2.

I just got Risen 1 and 2 today, and I love Risen 1. I have the Gothic series, but I have yet to get into it. It seems like Gothic is more about building a reputation to progress whereas Risen allows you to just jump right in.

SlapHappyJesus nailed it though...I don't have any Pirate rpgs, so Risen 2 was an instabuy.

Well, maybe "love" is not the word I should have used for Risen 1. Let's try "I am enjoying it thoroughly". Risen 2 feels a bit like Gothic 4 to the Gothic series, so I think I will just "like" it.

Well it's the exact word I'd use for it, Risen is one of my all-time-favorite games and been playing games for more than 25 years.

Got the Risen 2 for ~$5 yesterday from GamersGate, downloading atm.

Something tells me that I'm gonna be very disappointed by Risen 2. I loved the first game so I'm gonna keep an open mind about it. I have yet to play it though as I'm enjoying the summer instead :)

I own them both. Already had Risen (Gamefly had it on sale a while ago...), but I got distracted and haven't finished it although I plan to.

I'm playing Risen 2 now. It's a lot of fun. Yeah, the graphics are a bit "foggy/muggy". The fog seems appropriate for the island atmosphere, I guess. It's nothing game-breaking for me. If I had 20/20 vision, it probably wouldn't be that noticeable. I'm in the dark at the moment (torch went out), but I can still see well enough to fight the creatures on the beach.

The story is interesting enough to keep me playing. The combat is the usual PB hack 'n slash. I'm having to fight warthogs, monkeys, and sand devils to level up because I can't afford trainers. Just got "silver tongue" leveled up enough to convince a companion to take a kitchen job. :-P

It's definitely worth the $4.99 I paid for it. I'm on the second island. Not sure how many there are, but I'm thinking 3 or 4 at least? Maybe someone else can confirm or deny that here...

If you like pirate-themed games, you should enjoy at least one playthrough. Happy gaming!

I got both and I would say Risen2 is the better one it`s easier and the story is better

I wanted to clarify one of the comments I made about the graphics in my previous post. During the day, the colors are vibrant and crystal clear. On the island at night, it's foggy only in certain areas.

I'm really enjoying the game, but I decided to start over and change my character's attributes. I've gotten accustomed to fighting with blades and it didn't occur to me until I'd been playing a while that I might be better off using guns and leveling up my thieving skills (cunning). :-D

I own Risen and I played Risen's 2 demo, and I vote for Risen 2. But I must say that Risen 1 is like the good Gothics.

I like 1 Risen a lot, and second one dissapointed me, because there was nothing that i like ib games of piranha bytes, almost no good humor, the RPG part is awful, battle system ♥♥♥♥♥♥, the plot is predicable, but it always was in their games. So, I will always vote for the first Risen
