As a movie it was okay but it people were expecting BL2 and are upset they didn't get BL2. Its basically another Hollywood tries video games like Prince of Persia, Resident Evil, or Monster Hunter, okay movies but not faithful to the source. YES I SAID IT, PRINCE OF PERSIA WAS FINE.

If you want to save a ton of money then wait until there is a sale and get this for like 40 bucks which includes ALL (current) Borderlands content: https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/33369/Borderlands_Collection_Pandoras_Box/

If you can't wait then start with the Handsome Collection which includes ALL BL2 content (at the time so no lilith dlc) including "The Pre-Sequel" game (played after BL2) and its dlc for 60$, you're honestly not missing much without BL1 and BL3 can wait for sale while you're busy with BL2+TPS https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/8133/Borderlands_The_Handsome_Collection/

You can buy the Pandora's Box collection later for a dynamically discounted price based on you already having all BL2 + TPS content.

Game order in Pandora's Box collection:
1 - Borderlands Game of the Year, Claptrap is last dlc and includes spoilers.
2 - Borderlands 2, Tiny Tina was the last expansion and includes spoilers.
3 - The Pre-Sequel, takes place between BL 1 and 2 but assumes you played 2.
4 - Tales from the Borderlands, played after at least 2 but includes a TPS character.
5 - BL2 Commander Lilith dlc, takes place after Tales and before BL3.
6 - Borderlands 3, dlc order doesn't matter but Murder Mysteries is after main story.
7 - New Tales, another Tales style game made by completely different devs and I'd say skip it but it is included in Pandora's Box so up to you.

Why do people think the movie would somehow be like BL2? Doesn't matter which game you like it was never going to meet expectations for any of them.

The movie was just never going to be good both fans and non fans agree its not a good film so its flopped that simple. As for the games you can easily start with BL2 if you want. 1 hasn't aged all that well in the shooting and while 2 and pre sequel have aged they are still fun to play.

Maybe its just me projecting but BL1 didn't have a story and no one remembers it plus they choose to use Tiny Tina, Krieg, and Sanctuary also the amount of fan service name drops has it clearly targeted towards BL2 fans. Honestly though it kind of makes sense with the they way they went about it being "in the future" with Lilith going back.

Mm, were I to be making a movie, I'd have looked at the BL2 plot too.

Seems like the thing most easily converted into a standard action movie.

Nah BL2 would need a series, as bad as BL1 story is even after what I said it would make the better movie. Dumb action movie where 4 strangers team up using an already established siren tracking the vault key to shoot up 2 bandit camps to get vault key pieces and then team up with Atlas to get the 3rd and then get betrayed and open the vault for the big monster climax. I don't know why Lionsgate screwed that up trying to make their own story about Tina and then randomly throwing in a coming of age story for the geriatric Firehawk at the end. Honestly the pacing and end come so far out of left field that they probably did have plans for Tina but then realized "this isn't going to be good" and swung over to try and give Lilith her complete arc and tie up the movie with nothing dangling.

Honestly though at least it had an ending rather than Monster Hunter were they clearly assumed it was going to be a 2 part and the first movie didn't have a proper ending.

Yeah, but nothing in the plot correlates with any of the games short of the characters and nothing else.

They could have made something given the vast world and lore, Given the writing of the last few games doubt they could as the film lacked any real direction.

told u the movie was aimed at BL2 superfans.

this stuff is so transparent.
Bankai9212 Sep 4, 2024 @ 8:07pm
It wasn’t aimed at bl2 holo, stop using that as a shield the film was bad and didn’t appeal to anyone.

Didn't need any writing, they already had the basis there, Roland, Tina, Krieg, and Lilith were the 4 vault hunters and all they needed was decent pacing more open action scenes including a bandit camp but what we got was pointless exposition at the start because Lionsgate needed to make their own versions of the characters and they already started with 2 out of the 3 vault key pieces with the third randomly being found in some sewer with a few bandits and then more pointless exposition filled out the rest of the movie. Should just been a dumb action movie with little exposition besides Marcus explaining Pandora, the Vault, and sirens at the start like how Borderlands 1 is just a dumb action game without much thought. They could've left the "writing" to a Borderlands 2 series if the movie generated enough interest.

Its definitely not aimed at superfans, there was just constant name dropping to get BL2 fans to recognize stuff like Tina and Krieg along with Sanctuary, Caustic Caverns, Bloodshots, Tundra Express, etc. Name dropping is almost always cringy and they should instead of done references or easter eggs but that would have required thought and planning.

In order for the film to have good pacing and action it needed a good script and direction it has neither. This is ignoring how poor the existing action scenes are in the final product. Could have just been a simple adventure to find a vault. But short of the Minecraft film probably one of the worst video game movie adaptations.

I haven't seen the movie but from what I heard it was rather disastrous. The characters motivations are severely lacking which makes it hard to care for them or what they do in any way, the plot feels empty since it's based entirely on things that we are told, not things that we've seen, so that makes the audience lose interest with the plot rather quickly since we don't really know what the end goal is, this also makes the character dynamics and developpment pretty bad since we know very little about them all things considered, finally there's no ramp up in emotionnal drama to keep the audience involved with the movie, any semblance of emotionnal drama is either cut short or falls flat on its face. And i'm sure that's only some of the problems with the movie but there's a reason why the movie made less than 1/5 of it's budget and some of the people working on it (including one of the lead writer) are so embarrassed that they don't want to be associated with the movie and even go our of their way to bash it on social media. Borderlands the movie is probably the biggest disaster in recent movie history.

Fixed that for you.

Same reason as to why normal people dont like the BL3 "story": Cause there is none.
