[Tutorial] Getting your Wheel to Work
GRIP doesn't have official wheel support, but there is a way you can force your wheel to work.

You can configure a software called XOutput (https://github.com/csutorasa/XOutput) which converts your wheel input into a standard Xbox Controller output, which GRIP understands.

This works quite well with my G29 wheel, barring one unfortunate bug I can't seem to solve (see below).

Here's how to do it.

1. For logitech wheels, go into Logitech game software. Create a profile for GRIP, or just modify the default wheel profile. For the steering wheel settings, set "Sensitivity: 100%", "Wheel Operating Range" 180 degrees, and "Enable Centering Spring" and "Centering Spring Strength: 100%." I recommend these settings, otherwise steering feels awful in GRIP. DO THIS STEP BEFORE CONFIGURING XOUTPUT!

2. Install and open XOutput.

3. Click on "Show all input devices", and make sure your wheel is showing up in that list

4. Now click "Add controller", then "Edit"

5. Configure the buttons as appropriate. LX is your steering wheel left and right motion. LT and RT can be mapped to accelerator and brake. Other buttons are self explanatory.
*Here's the bug I mentioned. Xoutput does not recognize my G29 accelerator pedal for some reason, so I had to map accelerator to the clutch instead.
Edit: Thanks to 3nt0 , version 3.18 of XOutput works without this glitch: https://github.com/csutorasa/XOutput/releases/tag/3.18

6. Under Force feedback, select your wheel.

7. Close this window, then click Save configuration on the main window

8. When you're ready to play, click "start" by your new controller entry, and it should say a controller was connected.

9. Now start the game. You may need to go to the in-game controller bindings page and set them to however you setup the wheel.

10. And finally, one other glitch. When you start a race and push accelerator, it will be stuck in reverse for some reason. Simply tap the brake, then the accelerator will work as normal.

Good luck! It's really quite fun to play with a wheel!

I hear you about the accelerator pedal. I thought that would be the complaint lol. It is so weird to have the pedals switched. I was really hoping they would come out with wheel support, when they made VR support, but at least they are coming out with cool new skins you can buy...

Known issue, not resolved yet : https://github.com/csutorasa/XOutput/issues/178
A workaround is to use the clutch pedal to accelerate. Or the brake pedal to accelerate and the clutch one to brake.

Btw the github version is more up to date, compared to the one on sourceforge.

Thanks, I changed the URL to the github one in the main post. Looking forward to when (if) the accelerator bug is solved for G29 setups.

I guess this bug also applies to the G920?

I wonder why the logitech website says the wheel is supported if it doesn't work natively. Weird. Thanks for the guide though!

Wheel support was promise in kickstarted campaign. That why I put my money down. Not happy it did not come about. :(

Not the same. I previously bought the game a year or so ago, steering wheel was not delivered as promised, I refunded the game and now came back to check on it because of the sale. Really shameful that the devs gave up and settled for a fan made thread about a third party control remapper.

hey all with this issue - i have found that v3.18 of csutorasa's xoutput works perfectly with g29 throttle pedal, and only v3.19+ are affected (i have the issue where the axis is showing up but permanently reading 0, but _only in v3.19+_) as a temporary workaround, roll back to an older non-affected version. hopefully this will be fixed in v4 as then we can enjoy new features and bugfixes.

Thanks 3nt0! I edited the main post with your fix and a link to XOutput 3.18

Thanks for this, I've had this game on the backburner for ages waiting for wheel support and tried your method last night and in vr.
It is amazingly fun with a wheel in the cockpit view in vr, it's a shame it's not natively supported. VR has a serious lack of arcade racers and this one scratches that itch if you manage to get it to work.

Sorry I know this is an old thread, but I used this method and it worked fantastic Day 1 but the 2nd day I cannot get force feedback to work so it's close to unplayable. I booted the logitech profile first, then opened xoutput and it makes the force feedback inactive. Any help would be appreciated.
