Game suddenly very slow

So I've had Hoi4 for a long time now, and a few years ago I upgraded my PC to have a 3900x CPU, which up until recently would make Hoi4 run at light speed even well into 1945 and beyond.

However, I dunno what's happened but in the past week Hoi4 has just absolutely died and crawls at a snail pace. Heck, I noticed the difference because I loaded a save from last week and then *boom* the days take 15-30 seconds, whereas before 1-2 seconds was the norm before.

Thought it might just be the save was broken, so started a new vanilla game to see what the problem is, nope 1936 vanilla crawls too.

I really don't think this is a hardware issue, I have a 3900x, 3080, and 64 gigs of RAM with Hoi4 running off an NVME, Task Manager says Hoi4 is using less than 25% of my CPU so it's not even using the full thing and I've seen it higher before from Hoi4.

So what the heck is going on? Why is my game running so slow randomly and what can I do to fix it? Did some cache or file or something get corrupted?

Welcome to what happens every time PDX releases a brand new DLC. This happens every time they add something to their game in a major update. They'll end up fixing it again, only to release something else months down the line and repeating the process over and over again. Just roll back to the previous game version for now, until PDX fixes their game again.

for no apparent reason nobody has yet answers to this, I have a good pc and it just runs as slow as yours on HOI4

Same thing happened to me recently. The game just suddenly runs incredibly slow. I didn't change a single thing.
